Steelers T Mike Adams Expected To Be Out Until Training Camp Following Stabbing Incident

Updating the earlier report, Pittsburgh Steelers right tackle Mike Adams is currently recovering from surgery following him being stabbed in a robbery attempt of his truck.

Adams\’ agent Eric Metz has said that the second-year tackle came out of emergency surgery fine, but as a result he will spend a few days in the hospital. Adams is also expected to miss about six weeks, but is expected to be ready for training camp in late July.

“From what I understand, he was very fortunate,” said Metz, who spoke with Adams following his surgery. Metz also reportedly said that the knife thankfully missed some vital organs and that Adams also realizes how lucky he was.

“I had an angel lookin out for me!” Adams wrote on his Twitter account Saturday. (I\’ll) be ok just gotta fight to get back harder then ever.”

According to reports, two armed men approached Adams as he was sitting on the back of his truck.

“I asked him, \’Why didn\’t you just let them take the truck?\'” Metz said. “He told me, \’I didn\’t really have a plan. It happened so quickly.\’ It\’s hard to know what to do when something like this never happened to you before.”

Adams, the Steelers 2012 second-round draft pick out of Ohio State, has been working as the starting right tackle during the first two OTA sessions. Now that he is expected to be sidelined, Guy Whimper could wind up taking the first team reps during the Steelers third and final OTA session as well as the mandatory mini camp that will take place in mid June. Whimper was signed several weeks ago following his release from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Steelers are aware of the situation with Adams and released a statement on Saturday.

“We are aware of the situation regarding Mike Adams being stabbed earlier this morning,” Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said in a statement. “We are in direct communication with both Mike and his family. Mike is expected to make a full recovery.”
