Report: Lions To Workout Free Agent WR Steve Breaston

A few months ago, John Clayton of ESPN reported that free agent wide receiver Steve Breaston would more than likely sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers once the calendar flipped over to June, but with the start of training camp now just a few days away, that transaction hasn\’t come to fruition.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports Monday evening on Twitter that the Detroit Lions plan to bring Breaston in for a workout this week along with free agent wide receivers Laurent Robinson and Chaz Schillens.

Back when Breaston visited the Steelers following his early offseason release from the Kansas City Chiefs, there were some talk that one of his knees might have an arthritic condition. The link to the Steelers was an obvious one as the Michigan product had played for offensive coordinator Todd Haley in not only Kansas City, but Arizona as well.

When it gets this late in the offseason, teams usually look for experienced players whom they can get cheap. There is no guarantee that the Lions will sign Breaston, and if they don\’t, it very well could signal that his playing days are over.
