Ravens TE Dennis Pitta Carted Off Practice Field On Saturday

The Baltimore Ravens may have suffered a big loss during their Saturday training camp practice as their official team website is reporting via Twitter that tight end Dennis Pitta has been carted off the field during practice after colliding with safety James Ihedigbo on a jump ball in the back of the end zone.

The nature of Pitta\’s injury is unknown at this time, but he apparently had a towel over his head while being carted off and that\’s not normally a good sign.

Pitta had a career-high 61 catches for 669 yards and seven touchdowns last year for the Ravens, so it goes without saying that losing him for any amount of time, let alone for the year, would be devastating blow.

In his four games played against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pitta has nine catches for 155 yards.

We will update you on the status of Pitta once more is known about his injury and the severity of it. You hate to see any player go down like this.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

The last sentence of your article says it all!

That will deal a huge blow to their short passing game. Besides check downs to Ray Rice, Flacco is going to have to go back to his bread and butter which is lobbing up jump balls deep down the sideline and hoping either Jacoby Jones or Torey Smith make an acrobatic catch or draw a cheap interference call. I hear they are in talks with Shiancoe formerly of the Vikings.

It really is hard to see these guys go down like this ever.

Well in other bad news, Jeremy Maclin is feared to have a significant knee injury after a training camp mishap. It could be an ACL and/or MCL tear, team doctors are examining him right now. Meaning he’s done for the year almost without a doubt, and could be done as far as a career if it’s worse than feared at this time.

Just seems like a lot of injuries so far this season.

Yes, and that was before the Pitta injury so it’s almost certain now. They may be wishing they pulled the trigger and signed him yesterday, because the price tag may have just gone up.
What a shame. Rivals or not, you hate to hear that happen to anyone, especially so early in camp.

After colliding with a safety? Makes sense.

  • Richard Edlin

Maclin is the ACL, no MCL. Yes, it’s the season.
