Report: Steelers NT Alameda Ta\’amu Has Lost 27 Pounds

In my Friday night post about Alameda Ta\’amu, I recapped the negative surrounding Pittsburgh Steelers second-year nose tackle, who will start training camp on the Active PUP list, so today it is only fair to post some positive news about him.

According to Jim Wexell of Steel City Insider, Ta’amu injured the hamstring that landed him on the physically unable to perform list two weeks ago when he was running sprints. In addition, Wexell\’s report goes on to say Ta’amu has lost 27 pounds and has traded in that gut of his for a bigger chest and shoulders.

Since his incident last October, Ta\’amu has said he has quit drinking, and that he\’s been around Pittsburgh quite a bit working out at the Steelers facility. The weight loss is proof of his dedication and now all that is left is for him to show some improvement on the football field.

Head coach Mike Tomlin said the Washington product could be sidelined for days as he continues to rehab his hamstring, so hopefully he will not miss much more than a few practices.

Once Ta\’amu is allowed to practice, it will be interesting to see where he is in the pecking order. During the offseason, he reportedly received reps with the second and third-team defense; however, some of those second-team reps were split with defensive end Al Woods.
