Former Steelers DL Chris Hoke To Be Coaching Intern This Year At Training Camp

Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Chris Hoke announced on Wednesday that he will be a coaching intern for the team this year at training camp. Hoke, who originally signed with the Steelers in 2001 as an undrafted free agent out of BYU, played 11 seasons in Pittsburgh before retiring in January of 2012.

“I\’m going to do a coaching internship with Coach Mitchell of the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Hoke said on the latest episode of the Craig Wolfley Podcast. “I\’m going to be his assistant and work with the defensive line and help him work out those D-linemen. Try to impart my knowledge that I learned over my 11 year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 3-4 defense and try to help out these young guys.”

You knew it would only be a matter of time before Hoke would get into coaching and it is good to hear that he will be working with the young guys this year in training camp. Hoke certainly knows the 3-4 defense inside and out and being as he mostly played nose tackle during his 11 years in the league, he will certainly be a great mentor to Alameda Ta\’amu and Hebron Fangupo.
