Steelers Release First Depth Chart Of 2013

The first real Pittsburgh Steelers depth chart of the 2013 season has been released and Burt Lauten released a picture of it Sunday afternoon via Twitter.

There really aren\’t any big surprises here and has Lauten notes, it\’s subject to change.

Kelvin Beachum is only listed as the backup left tackle, but we all know by now he has worked a lot as the second team center during the practices.

Rookie linebacker Jarvis Jones is of course behind Jason Worilds at right outside linebacker with Adrian Robinson, who played exclusively on the left side last year during the preseason, being listed as the third.

Chris Carter is backing up LaMarr Woodley at left outside linebacker, while both Stevenson Sylvester and Marshall McFadden are backing up Larry Foote and Lawrence Timmons respectively on the inside.

While these depth charts are certainly fine for sparking discussion, I really like to chart the early preseason games to see which player replaces another and at what position throughout the games as it gives you a real good read of not only the pecking order used, but in some cases, position flexibility as well.

Looks like Embernate and Jones are the Rookies playing second team today. I like.

  • DoctorNoah

A couple of interesting things. They may just be part of the early shuffle and nothing to make much of, but:

    1. OG second teams listed as Justin Cheadle and Nik Embernasty. I assume it’s really Beachum and Malecki swinging here, but there it is.

    2. Kashif Moore over Derrick Moye right now. I know they just put all the Rookies at the bottom, but for the 2nd year guys, I’m surprised.

    3. Isaiah Green over Victorian, Van Dyke, Hawthorne. Anything to this?

  • SteelersDepot

the way you need to read line two is that it is a continuation of the line above. So that would put Green behind Victorian and ahead of Malone

  • Rubem Dornas

I don’t think we can take this serious. Redman 1st RB?

    Where is Alameda?

  • SteelersDepot

at the bottom on the PUP list

  • DoctorNoah

If that’s true, then Markus Wheaton is already ahead of David Gilteath. Surprising since he’s missed OTA’s and is a rookie… Thoughts there?

  • SteelersDepot

that wouldn’t be surprising one bit in my eyes

  • DoctorNoah

That’s why I love this site and read it (multiple times) every day.

  • Shea Fahr

Can Beachum long snap and eat yet another roster spot?? Just Joking..

  • BurgherinMD

fixing up those cars he sideswiped 😉

  • SteelerFanInMD

I see they have Sanders at KR, Brown at PR, and Landry Jones as the 4th QB.

Wheaton was a 3td rd. draft pick, Gilreath was undrafted. If Wheaton makes the team ahead of Gilreath(which I expect he will) that only proves the scouts had it right in their talent evaluation between the two.

Looks like we’re set to waste another season of Heyward’s. Shame too.

  • Matthew Marczi

They haven’t even practiced in pads yet.

Justin Cheadle has been around since late-season last year and is known for being a good mobile zone lineman in college, he has a leg up on some of these guys. Im liking Embernate where he is at the moment. With Beachum and Foster being capable backup Tackles, one of these guys (Embernate or Cheadle) could make the roster for interior depth

Isaiah Green has apparently impressed thus far

I don’t know about having A.Brown return punts (for risk of injury) but I definitely think we need to utilize Sanders in the return game
