Steelers Rookies Jarvis Jones And Le\’Veon Bell Highlight Monday Backs On Backers Drill

The Pittsburgh Steelers had their first backs on backers drill on Monday as the team donned the pads for the first time since training camp opened. As you can imagine, head coach Mike Tomlin wanted to see his top two draft picks, linebacker Jarvis Jones and running back Le\’Veon Bell go after each other.

According to Tunch Ilkin of steelers.com, Bell represented himself well in the drill that is slanted heavily in the favor of the linebackers as they get a 10 yard run at the running backs.

Mike Prisuta of DVE Radio had Bell 5-6 in the drill and overall had the defense winning the 30-17.

According to several reports on Twitter, Jones also represented himself well in the drill.

Linebacker Marshall McFadden was reportedly always near the front of the line to get reps during the drill, and after beating Baron Batch on one of his reps, Batch took issue and looked like he wanted to fight the second-year linebacker before running backs coach Kirby Wilson intervened and scolded his running back.

We will have more on the drill results later in our daily recap post.
