Mike Adams To Remain Steelers Left Tackle For Now

The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be happy with their decision to switch tackles that took place well over a week ago and offensive line coach Jack Bicknell Jr. said Monday he will continue on with Mike Adams at left tackle and Marcus Gilbert at right tackle for the time being.

“We\’re gonna stay with it and see if there\’s a reason to flop back,” Bicknell told Mike Prisuta of DVE Radio on Monday.

In the preseason opener Saturday night against the New York Giants, Adams performed well at left tackle in the 33 snaps that he played. He did not allow a sack or a pressure and his run blocking was more than adequate. As for Gilbert, he also played 33 snaps on the opposite end of the offensive line. While his pass blocking seemed to just fine, he did have a few problems in the run blocking department on a few plays and that included him being flagged for holding during the opening offensive possession.

Unless Adams really falls on his face in the final three preseason games, he should be the starting left tackle when the Steelers play the Tennessee Titans in the season opener.

Now when the media interviews Adams he won’t act like a kid that lost his dog.

  • Jason Brant

I’d act like that if I potentially lost millions too.

    This is actually pretty funny.

When we drafted him I always thought him to be the heir apparent to the LT job. Was surprised that Gilbert was given it first but I now believe it is in the rightful hands

Same here. Both of us WERE in the minority though since the fan base panicked when he had a rough outing at LT as a rookie LOL. He was a rookie making a huge transition to LT so difficulties should be expected. Most TOP 15 overall OT picks start off at RT at the very least their 1st year and many never make it to the LT position because some other lower round OT outplays him. Obviously we are in the majority now with everyone on the Adams bandwaggon.

One game does not a trend make. Hopefully he will not give Bicknell a reason to move him back.

Decastro and Gilbert look like they are apotentially good team together on the right side. Adams when at his best last year performed well on rushing plays (we had 3 hundred yard rushers in a row). Adams had trouble in pass blocking and that has to be worrisome on Ben’s blind side.

well, considering Gilbert was being declared the LT without ever having earned it, I don’t blame Adams. A fair competition is all most people want. He got a fair competition and he earned the job. Hopefully now that he has found his dog, he won’t lose his desire. 😛

it never made sense to get on his case about his early LT play. He settled down, he was dominant at RT, and he had issues in pass pro because he was ass-backwards playing on the wrong side. Max Starks had the same issues when he was on the right side. This is hardly surprising.

he had issues in pass pro while playing on the wrong side. He was a rock in pass pro this week against a tough NYG team

I am very glad to hear he did well.
I fail to see the great differential between L or R OT. Both have to defend edge, inside slant, or bull rushes. If you only are able to block left handed the opposition soon figures it out and then you have to go play in the CFL.
