Report: Steelers To Work Out Free Agent T D\’Anthony Batiste

According to Adam Caplan on Twitter, former Arizona Cardinals tackle D\'Anthony Batiste is scheduled to work out for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Batiste, 31, started 10 games for the Cardinals in 2012 at left tackle, but allowed 12 sacks, 7 quarterback hits and 35 hurries on 425 pass plays, according to Pro Football Focus.

Batiste went undrafted in 2004 out of Louisiana-Lafayette and he played in both the AFL2 and CFL for the first few years of his career before finally signing with the Dallas Cowboys in June of 2006.

During his career Batiste has been with the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos before finally being signed by the Cardinals late in 2010. He has played in 37 games with 14 career starts.

  • SteelersDepot

    I have two words….. YIKES

  • sgtrobo

jesus h christ. are you frickin serious?!?!?! I didn’t think it could get any worse than Jonathan Scott.

    Oops. In waddles Guy Whimper.

I didn’t think it could get any worse than Guy Whimper.

    Oops. In waddles D’Anthony Batiste.

the guy gave up a dozen frickin’ sacks in 9 games last season. Good God. I really think the front office must hate Ben Roethlisberger. Maybe they have a really big insurance policy out on him.

First Big Ben’s worst nightmare then the fans!!!

  • dgh57

I didn’t think the Steelers could possibly outdo themselves worse than Whimper! Just hope for Big Ben’s sake they take a pass on Batiste.

Calm down, people. I totally understand the knee-jerk reactions but remember both whimper and batiste played for two (three) quarterbacks that held on to ball too long. By this I mean literally like a deer caught in headlight. While those tackles aren’t the most formidable or reliable tackles, many forgot that offensive tackles are really expensive. You don’t ever see anyone saying “this guy is the league’s best back-up tackle” no… you don’t hear that, ever.

While those two tackles may be… scary at first glance for the reliability and accountability of our quarterback’s health also those tackles are “athletic” and better fit for ZBS. If you think you saw the worst, haha.. no you haven’t and be relieved!

Also if injury ever occur to marcus gilbert, Mike Adams is the next guy with Beachem at RT. Beachem is our true 3rd tackle. We are looking at options, this doesn’t give out any implication of our lack of depth- just lack of camp bodies.

  • T R

thats one word.. LOL OMG hasnt it gotten that bad that we working him out..

  • BurgherinMD

NO…worst nightmare is they are forced to also take Kemoeatu back and his 30 yards=per game in penalties and crappy pass blocking.

  • Shannon Stephenson

You must have forgotten how long Ben holds onto the ball.

  • Alexander Sebastian Heath

Big ben moves around… THOSE quarterbacks doesn’t (Skeleton, Kolb, and Gabbert)

  • Michael Pearce

This is funny but if or when the starters go down this year Ben better have some good insurance. We are literally scraping the barrell now.

  • Shelob9

Hold on!! They are willing to accept a non pro bowl caliber player for 3rd string tackle? The sky is falling!!

  • Ben Anderson

It’s JUST a workout at this point. They do workouts continually over the course of a season in order to have an up to date portfolio of evaluations for use in the event of an injury. Everyone take a step back from the ledge.

  • woundedvet

    Batiste=Whimper = JonScott =bad day to be a QB.

  • Shannon Stephenson

Yep…it isnt like Ben IS NOT the most sacked QB over the last 5 years.

  • Alexander Sebastian Heath

New offense, new o-linemen. We will be fine.
