SacMan Jones Is Turning Into BatMan Jones At Steelers Training Camp

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie linebacker Jarvis Jones uses the handle @SacManJones_29 on Twitter which is certainly a reference to all of the sacks he had during his career at Georgia. Judging by the reports coming out of Latrobe the last few weeks, Jones might could get away with using BatManJones_29 as his handle as well.

According to Mike Prisuta of DVE Radio, Jones had a solid practice Wednesday and it included him batting away three passes from would-be pass catchers during the final 11-on-11 period. Prisuta also adds that Jones batted away those three passes in three different situations and he detailed each of them in his report.

“You just gotta add some more packages to your game,” Jones told Prisuta after practice. “You can’t be one-dimensional. I think I had a couple bat-downs at the University of Georgia. Here, I’m just coming off the ball, reading and reacting and playing football.”

Last week, a few of the media posted on Twitter that Jones had a few tipped balls to his credit and that he actually came down with one of them for an interception. That certainly is music to the ears of Steelers fans.

Jones has admitted several times since the Steelers drafted in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft that he didn\’t drop into coverage much while playing at Georgia, but so far during training camp he appears to be picking up that skill quickly.

Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Wednesday on Twitter that Jones put on a clinic at the end of practice and that it is time the rookie graduates from the third-team.

Jones, who recorded 28 total sacks over the course of the last two seasons, is attempting to become the first Steelers defensive rookie to start a season opener since linebacker Kendrell Bell accomplished the feat in 2001.

Jones quest for the starting right outside linebacker spot goes live this Saturday night as he will make his NFL debut Saturday night in the preseason opener against the New York Giants at Heinz Field and hopefully we will see both the SacMan and BatMan make their debuts as well.
