The news concerning Pittsburgh Steelers rookie guard Nik Embernate is pretty much what we it expected to be as head coach Mike Tomlin said after practice that the San Diego State product tore his ACL and MCL on Thursday, according to Jim Wexell of Steel City Insider.
The date for Embernate\’s surgery has not yet been set, but we can assume he will be lost for the season. Embernate was a high priority free agent signing following the draft after playing right guard in college.
The Steelers might have to carry Embernate on their 90 man roster for the rest of the preseason and then place him on injured reserve right before the regular season gets underway. The only other option would be to waive him injured and hope he clears waivers so that he reverts back to injured reserve.
