Report: Steelers Kelvin Beachum To Make Debut At Center Against Redskins

Pittsburgh Steelers second-year offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum has worked quite a bit at center over the course of the offseason and while he didn\’t get a chance to play the position last Saturday night in the preseason opener against the New York Giants, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Thursday that he will be snapping the ball some Monday night against the Washington Redskins.

Beachum told Fittipaldo he\’s been told he will likely play center with the first-team offense, once Maurkice Pouncey is removed from the game. The Steelers did the same thing last week with John Malecki as he played 12 snaps at center with the other four starting linemen once Pouncey was removed from the game.

Whether or not Beachum stays in the game once all the starters are removed is yet to be seen, however. Should he remain at center after the other four starting linemen are done for the night, we could very well see a second team left to right offensive line consisting of D\’Anthony Batiste, Guy Whimper, Beachum, Malecki and Joe Long.
