AFC North Teams Go Winless In Week 1

The AFC North certainly isn’t what it used to be, at least after the first week of the 2013 season, as all four teams are 0-1 heading into the second week of the season.

The Baltimore Ravens started things off with their 49-27  loss in the 2013 season opener to the Denver Broncos and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns all followed suit with losses on Sunday.

The Steelers had losses inside their loss to the Tennessee Titans, however, as center Maurkice Pouncey and linebacker Larry Foote have likely been lost for the season due to the injuries they both suffered during the game. Pouncey tore his MCL and ACL in his right knee while Foote ruptured one of his biceps.

Unless there are some ties next week, the AFC North figures to have two winless teams as the Ravens will host the Browns next Sunday afternoon while the Bengals will host the Steelers a week from Monday.

The ONLY good news that came out of today

  • JT

It’s so much easier to look to the doom and gloom, but the reality is the division gave them a mulligan this week. As bad as it was, the division is still even. The only thing that HAS to stick with them is the injuries. Otherwise take the bad, and learn from it.

OmG i don’t want to play on #primetime next week.. Good Lord.. Everyone will see us..

Only if somehow the rest of the division can go 0-16 and maybe we have a shot.

  • Marcus

It’s a long year. I am perplexed as to why we seem to have the same problems as last year, but maybe they can get it fixed.

  • Dan

No kidding. I hope we’re a drastically better (or at least different) team 8 days from now.

In all honestly it’s the first game not sure why the last few years we come out looking horrible but I felt we would look bad early and come on strong but the problem with that is we have to remain remotely healthy which is already in limbo.

That has been one of my biggest gripes with the coaching staff over the past few years. They rarely seem to learn much from games like this. Particularly early season. It always seems like we play the first game as if it were another preseason game.

Yes, that’s what I thought as a kind of silver lining. But this has become a trend. The losing. And the revamped D line allowed Titans to run. They couldn’t stop the run which then set up the pass. On the opposite side, Titans stopped the run and made the Steelers one dimensional and clobbered Ben. Everything taken together is a portent of bad tidings to come. I agree with what Ledanian Tomlinson said tonight, ‘This isn’t the Steelers I’ve known from the past. After the loss of many great players over the past few years, they need to find an identity.’

    Tied for 1st place.

This is what I keep trying to tell people. We played our worst football and are still tied for first place in the division. So relax folks there is no need to panic. The offense won’t perform like that all season. Ben and Troy are still healthy (knock on wood) so we are still in this.
