Well, there you go. While writing about Pittsburgh Steelers center Cody Wallace, the team addressed their needs at center by signing former Tennessee Titans center/guard Fernando Velasco to a one-year deal.
Velasco, who was originally signed by the Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2008, played his college football at Georgia. In 2012 he started all 16 games for the first time in his career. He made 13 starts at center and three starts at left guard.
The Titans cut ties with Velasco during their final round of cuts because he had lost his job to former St. Louis Rams offensive lineman Rob Turner.
This move looks good on paper and Wallace must not be the “known commodity” that Tomlin claimed he was just a week ago.
With Maurkice Pouncey now out for the season with a knee injury, the Steelers knew that neither Wallace nor Kelvin Beachum were the long-term answers at center.
Velasco now has a week to prepare for the Cincinnati Bengals, a team he faced just a few weeks ago during the preseason.
