Steelers Injury Report: CB Cortez Allen Remains Sidelined Friday

The Pittsburgh Steelers have wrapped up their Friday practice as they continue to prepare for the Monday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals The second official injury report of the week is now out and includes a little bit of good news.

Cornerback Curtis Brown (illness), nose tackle Steve McLendon (hamstring) and kicker Shaun Suisham (hamstring) all practiced fully Friday. Brown had sat out Thursday with an illness while both McLendon and Suisham were listed Thursday as being limited.

Tight end Heath Miller (knee) was limited on Friday once again and it will be interesting to see whether or not he is listed as questionable on the Saturday injury report. Last week, Miller was listed as doubtful and of course did not play in the season opener. Being as he hasn't practiced fully yet, it does not look like Miller will play Monday night.

Cornerback Cortez Allen (ankle) did not practice once again on Friday, so Saturday will be a big day for him. Allen injured an ankle in the second half against the Tennessee Titans.

Running back Le'Veon Bell (foot) remains sidelined and will not play Monday night.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.
  • ELIJAH

Allen can’t stay on the field.

  • Bilgewater D

Cortez is not going play and that is going to be a big problem for the Steelers.

  • Jeff

I feel like every bit of good news the steelers have is quickly followed by some bad news about an injury update…. The injury bug landed here 3 years ago and hasn’t left yet…

  • steeltown

We have a Monday night game this week…so Allen could still practice tomorrow

    {fingers crossed}

  • Jeff

I sure hope so.. We need all the help we can get in the secondary against AJ Green and company…
I thought Gay held his own last week and is criticized more than he should be, but I’m a little less comfortable with him being our #2 this week

  • Bilgewater D

I’m thinking the coaching of one Carnell Lake has had a lot to do with that.

The big key to this game is pressure on Dalton. He melts like a wet lilly when you get in his face.

  • steeltown

Agreed.. we need Cortez Allen more THIS week than next week or the week after

  • Ahmad

While having Allen on the field this week would certainly help the secondary, I don’t want him rushing back and then not play well or worse sustain another injury. We can try to make do against the Bengals without him and let him heal that ankle up and be ready for Week 3.

  • cencalsteeler

Maybe the Steelers should do what New England did. Bring in the pest control services to spray the facilities!

  • schlong

Time for Shamarko to step up in the nickel

  • Jay Jaber

this is why we shouldve kept keenan lewis! this is what i was afraid of going into the season allen is injured way to much

  • Jay Jaber

and so is curtis brown he was supposed to be the starter in front of cortez when they drafted him but hes injured way to offten too

  • Bilgewater D

This is a critical divisional game. If we start 0-2, it’ll be pretty bleak already.

  • Bilgewater D

against a 6-6 TE with crazy leaping ability?

  • steeltown

You know whats funny, Shark has a far better vertical jump than Eifert… just sayin

  • Callentown

I hate to say it, because the Steelers have been my team for almost 40 years, but this team is not in the same ball park as the mid to upper level teams in the NFL.

Doesn’t matter who plays! Even with Pouncey, Howling and Foot, the Steelers were terribly outplayed by the Titans. The Titans may win 4 games this year. The Steelers will not.

    Seeya Haley!

  • Jeff

I still think it’s early to say this team is doomed. But what do I know, I’m just a homer lol.
HOWEVER, we got spanked a lot worse week 1 against the Ravens in 2011 and still went 12-4.
Some of these guys will inevitably HAVE to come back from injury at some point, and the steelers could make a run at this thing. That’s the beauty of an unpredictable league.

  • Callentown

Ah, I admire your optimism. There’s something about Haley, and possibly even Tomlin. Injuries happen, but the Steelers seem to have something else happening there. It’s not natural.

They lost every game they’ve played so far and that line is not going to get better as they lose another lineman or so. Ben may not make it to the bye week.

I’ve been watching a loooooong time, but never seen a Steelers team look like this bad. Trust me when I say that 8-8 will look like a dream by week 5/6.

  • Bilgewater D

Yeah, but he has six + inches to make up to start with. Combine that with Eiferts crazy long arms. ShamWow isn’t going to win that match up.

  • Bob Loblaw

Difference between Allen and Brown is that Brown worries me even when he’s on the field.

  • Bob Loblaw

ITT we talk about the supernatural and its effect on the Steelers’ injury report. In all seriousness, I think someone needs to take a long look at our strength and conditioning coach.

I haven’t been watching the Steelers for 40 years, but there were plenty of worse games through the Tomczak-Kordell-Maddox years. Heck, the first game of the season two years ago was worse than last week.

  • Shannon Stephenson

Ive said this for 2 years that we need to take a long look at the strength and conditioning coach and Im glad I am not the only guy who is thinking/saying this.

  • Rob H

Art II, and Tomlin said they were going to take a long look at that entire department after last season. It’s absolutely mind boggling, the law of averages alone would say you wouldn’t have that kind of bad luck 3 years in a row, and yet there was Pouncey grabbing his knee in the first friggen series. I almost started laughing, it felt like either that, or start breaking things around my apartment.

  • r4kolb

He will win it if he ShamWow blasts his as# when the ball gets there!!!! ShamPow Batman.

  • Reg Sayhitodabadguy Hunt

I also uttered those exact words but i wonder how many injured seasons we have to deal with before f/o realizes that

  • sean mcmartin

If Tomlin is worth anything as a head coach, Monday night Football is his test. If the Team comes in once again flat and unmotivated. There is no question where the disconnect is. We will see Monday night.

  • Weiss Chad

Yeah but curtis brown couldnt carry allens jock strap.Allen is ten times better than brown

  • Jazz

CortezAllen, Curtis Brown, these guys are killing the team. Although Allen does have potential, it does nothing for the team if he’s always on the sidelines. Curtis Brown? A complete Bust! This is exactly what I’ve been saying for quite some time now, Colbert has done a piss A$$ Poor Job drafting rounds 3-6.

  • Donnie Richardson

Its the rule changes the nfl made to protect the players. The nfl took away 2 a days because lazy players complained of being overworked.. instead of taking it away they shouldve left the decision of 2 a say practices up to the individual teams by letting the players vote.. then we would kno the weak links and get rid of those who are against 2 a days..

  • Donnie Richardson

My fellow steelernation don’t worry. We got a better center, a better punter, our rb on the team again, we can benefit with pounceys injury we could trade him for 2 or 3rd rd draft picks and we should definitely rework big ben, woodley, timmons contracts.. don’t forget we get the dolphins highest draft pick next draft for getting wallace.. so lets hope the dolphins dont win more than 6 games..

  • Christopher Wilkes

Maybe you haven’t been paying attention, but the defense, let alone the CBs, have nothing to do with ‘killing’ the team. Take a look at the other side of the ball.

  • Josh Knepshield

Why can’t this Steelers team “compete” this year? What is the difference between this team and teams in the past? Our offensive line hasn’t been good since Faneca left, and we’ve been to 2 superbowls in that time. The Steelers will adapt and figure this out like they always do. For those people saying we’ll only win 4-5 games this year, give me a break. The Steelers are going to beat the Bengals and when we end up 10-6, all of us will look back on this and laugh.

  • Josh Knepshield

We get a third round compensatory pick for wallace, not their highest draft pick.

  • Callentown

Yes. That game was bad. So was the one back in the 80′s when we lost by about 50 to Cleveland (though I could have looked it up, I’m hoping my memory is correct that it was opening day).

The difference in those bad losses was that it was just one bad loss.

Having a QB the quality of Ben means we are in contention in any game. But this isn’t just a flash anymore. It’s become ‘the way’. The standard is now something different.

It’s not that they looked inept. It’s that it isn’t just one game anymore. And, btw, in this era of throwing the ball in which the Steelers have gone by the Arians and Haley way, the Ravens won last year using the Steelers formula – running the ball hard and strong and throwing deep. Add good defense and you’re contending.

    Just sayin..

  • Bob Loblaw

Not sure how we can be considered to be a team that has a lot of bad losses when it’s been awhile since we even had a losing season.

Our losses lately haven’t even been blowouts, which to me suggests that if we get a couple people healthy and correct a few issues we should be fine. If we’re going 8-8 in years where the team is clearly transitioning I’m not too worried.

  • Callentown

I say it’s Haley. But still hard to identify why the Steelers seem to be more fragile than all other teams.

Everyone has injuries, but not like this. I wonder if anyone has compiled injury stats over the past 2-3 years. Would be interesting to compare Steelers injuries to the NFL at large.

Josh, if we even compete tonight in the second half against Cinci, I’ll be shocked.

Blind guess at the score: 31-13
