Steelers Personnel Grouping Stats Versus Titans

Below are the personnel groupings and stats of the Pittsburgh Steelers offense from the season opener against the Tennessee Titans. We will be tracking these once again this season as part of our yearly charting project.

As you can see, the offense predominantly used their 11 personnel (1RB/1TE/3WR) grouping against the Titans (35 of 53 plays). They used two or more tight ends on 16 plays and likely intended to use more of that had Kelvin Beachum not had to move to center once Maurkice Pouncey went out injured. In fact, Beachum was in at tight end for three of the first eight offensive plays.

Being as fullback Will Johnson didn’t play, the Steelers only used two backs in their backfield just once and that resulted in a fumble by Isaac Redman.

I should also note that the offense used their 11 personnel grouping for the entire fourth quarter and the last 21 plays in which they ran the ball just twice.
