Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger’s Pass Distances Versus Titans

We will be tracking the distance of the throws made by Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger over the course of the season and below is a play by play look at his passes from Sunday against the Tennessee Titans in the season opener.

Roethlisberger threw the ball 33 times in week one and the average distance the ball traveled past the line of scrimmage was 8.76 yards. Seven of his 33 passes traveled more than 15 yards and four went over 20 yards.

As this is only week one, we don’t have anything to compare it to, but over the coming weeks it will be interesting to track not only the completion percentages of the distances, but the distances themselves.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

It would also be interesting to see the average distance of Ben’s throws past the line of scrimmage vs the averages from the rest of the NFL quarterbacks.

notice how awful our field position was as well.

  • Sdale

Something very interesting. He was 5/11 on passes when there were 5 yards or less to go for a first down and 5/5 on 3rd and 8 or better. Personnel groupings?
