Steelers S Ryan Clark Is Not Expecting The Team To Extend His Contract Before Sunday

The Pittsburgh Steelers only have a few more days left to get contract extensions done and veteran safety Ryan Clark is pretty sure he will not receive one.

Clark told Jim Wexell of Steel City Insider that he would be surprised if his contract is extended before the start of the season as the team knows how comfortable he is in Pittsburgh and as a result they will likely see about re-signing him next offseason.

Clark is a smart man and while he said all of the right things during the offseason, he ultimately knows that his age played a big role in him not receiving an extension.

Assuming Clark wants to play next season, the Steelers will once again let him test the free agent market like they did several years ago. Should he ultimately want to play one final year in Pittsburgh, the Steelers will more than likely offer him a one-year qualified contract for the minimum.

Defensive end Brett Keisel is in the same boat as Clark, so you can expect the team will take the same course of action with him following the season.

As far as defensive end Ziggy Hood, wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and running back Isaac Redman go, there is still time to get something done. Hood remains the likeliest of the three to receive an extension, but there are no guarantees that it will happen.
