New Steelers T Levi Brown Not Sure If Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley Is In His Corner

In 2007, the Arizona Cardinals drafted tackle Levi Brown with the fifth overall selection in the draft.  That same year, Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley was in his first season with the Cardinals as their offensive coordinator, but judging by Brown’s quotes on Monday, the two may have a had a run-in or two with each other during their two seasons together.

“Well, you know, Todd is an interesting fella. Let’s just leave it at that,” Brown said, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Me and Todd — I mean, everybody has their arguments. I’m not sure he’s like necessarily in my corner, but, at this point, I’m here, so, obviously, he liked that fight in me, so I appreciate it.”

Run-ins or not, Brown was the Cardinals starting right tackle during his time spent with Haley, so he should somewhat have an understanding of the offense. The terminology, however, might give him some problems, so he will have to work through that over the course of the several days.

“I obviously have a lot to learn as far as the playbook is concerned, terminology and things like that,” Brown said Monday. “Once I’ve learned those things and they feel like I’m up to speed, I’m sure they’ll make a decision one way or the other. Either way, I’m here to help out.”

Whether or not Brown helps out Sunday at left tackle against the New York Jets could depend on whether or not left guard Ramon Foster is able to play as he continues to recover from a pectoral sprain. Brown admitted that he split reps Monday in practice at left tackle with Kelvin Beachum, but doesn’t know yet if he’ll get the start.

Head coach Mike Tomlin is scheduled to hold his weekly press conference on Tuesday, but isn’t likely to tip his hand as to which way his leaning as it relates to the starting left tackle spot. Haley normally talks to the media on Thursday and it will be interesting to hear his thoughts on Brown as it relates to his past dealings with Brown.

Like it or not, the two are back in the same corner together again.
