Rams Release Former Steelers T Max Starks

We shall see just how bad the Pittsburgh Steelers view their tackle situation over the course of the next few days as the St. Louis Rams announced Tuesday the release of tackle Max Starks.

Starks signed with the Rams less than two weeks ago and he played all of eight snaps for them in two games.

Starks signed with the San Diego Chargers during the offseason, but was released prior to the start of the season after not playing well during the preseason.

Wow that GIF definitely not one of his better moments. I know what Max has been able to do for us in the past but I’m gonna say no. He has regressed too much also he’s been cut twice this season already. Sadly he’s done.

  • RedCarpetDefense

It hurts just to watch that…make it stop.

  • Eric

    Dear Max,
We appreciate everything you did with the black and Gold. Best wishes on your next career.

    Steeler Nation

  • Fritz Baughman

Yet, people will still clamor over him as if he were Moses himself parting the defensive line as if it were the Red Sea. He’s washed up people. Released by two teams already. Let’s move on, folks.

  • Mike.H

Max and Mike Adams seem to block “blindly”.. without much awareness of opponents’ body shift. Boom! it’s over in 2 seconds to the QB.

  • Mike.H

and Yes, BIG thank you to Max for big part of Steelers’ championship run. MY hats off to your service.

  • JohnnyV1

I disagreed with not re-signing Max Starks initially, but it was the right move looking back.

  • Shea Fahr

Drop Whimper and sign Starks…Oooops! wait a minute, Whimper gets his full salary for the year already….do it anyway.

  • SteelersDepot

You will watch it until others stop.

Work him out. If he looks like shit, pass on him. It can’t hurt to try him out. How much worse could he be than Adams. Hell maybe he will play motivated.

  • RW

Can Max Starks and Mike Adams hold hands and pretend they’re one person? That might make an average LT out of two pretty terrible ones.

  • MC

Max didn’t come back cause he wanted to start. Now after being cut twice i’m sure he’ll be happy with any role. I’d love the steelers to sign him so that Adams is on an even shorter leash. If Adams goes down do we really want Whimper in the mix?
Max is better than Guy is all im saying, I’m also guilty of having a soft spot for Max.

  • Mike Carroll

Only if their hands were bound together with handcuffs.

  • gene mann

max looks terrible but maybe he look to get in shape to come home

  • RW

Meh – I’d still worry that every defensive end in the league could split them without getting touched.

  • Fritz Baughman

So, you want to spend several hundred thousand dollars on a painfully washed up left tackle who was already released twice this season? Just to show Adams that he’s on a short leash? Dude, we’re trying to improve….not regress.

  • GunsDontKillWoodleyKills

Did he learn that move from J. Scott or Mike Adams?

  • Richard Edlin

More likely that combining them means you’d get someone who could be skinned on both the inside (Starks) and outside (Adams). What’s going on with their feet position, as it does seem that both have quite specific weaknesses …

  • Dwayne Ferguson

I have a crazy idea. Hopefully Pouncy comes back next year all healthy and 100%.
But we do not make him the starting center. Crazy right? But I think our new guy is good enough at center and pouncy is athletic enough that he might be converted into a great left tackle.
Adams MIGHT make an Ok starting guard- and at the very least a number two back up LT.
If we don’t do something like this we might have to waste a potentially high first round pick on a new left tackle.

  • RedCarpetDefense

Look at Sam Bradford he’s like damn I’m glad that wasn’t me gettin’ whacked.

  • Jollyrob68

I’d bring him back for leadership, cut Whimper and put pressure on Adams. The young bucks still need a leader

  • Bob Loblaw

Rather pick up a true LT in the draft, move Pouncey to guard, and keep Velasco at center. Adams and Gilbert can fight over the RT spot.

  • Jason

Pouncey At Lt? Boot Footed Adams At Guard? This Has To Be A Joke.

  • Bob Loblaw

Bringing in a guy who looks overweight and out of shape to provide leadership doesn’t make sense to me.

  • T R

    Can he play LT lol

  • T R

    Lol. Ooh the pain

  • Dan

Thank you sir. May I have another.
Thank you sir. May I have another.
Thank you sir. May I have another.

  • Dan

    Well said.
Although a lump of coal would be a more effect LT than Adams, at some point we must do something to stop the pain.

  • psteelers

Ravens just traded for Eugene Monroe to solve their left tackle issue, and we are suppose to be considering Max again? Or some kid who hasn’t played one down in they league? Geez

  • Kevin Gobleck

Maybe we could sign Casey Hampton to play LT. At least that would buy more time, being the defender would have a larger obstacle to get around.

  • Shannon Stephenson

  • Shannon Stephenson

Our problems are solved…Starks is available. Maybe Max can also be an ambassador as well and make peace on earth.

  • gene mann

  • Tom

Thanks for the GIF……now I know where Mike Adams learned his pass blocking techniques.

  • Eric

    Thanx and I agree

  • walter mason

He just might…just might…be better than Whimper. Motivate him… Bring him in and work him out. Whats the harm? How much worse can he be? Bring back the butt block.

  • Busforever

The thing that worries me is that I believe our OL issue can only be resolved by acquiring some veteran in the FA market. We drafted young men, they can’t grow by themselves, it seems, looking at each others, not knowing why it’s not working, as if they miss a leader. I would like to see some solid and veteran player in the mix, with a 8 years experience, able to start and showing the example. I like the way Velasco came in and plugged. To me, we need this kind of player, but a better one, to set the tone and tell ”look at me, this OL will change his level with me”. Infortunately, I’m affraid this won’t happen (I’m not even saying ”now”, but during the offseason), because the Steelers simply don’t sign significant FA players.

  • Virdin Barzey

Max is done. He did okay for us. He was never great but got better and was adequate. He’s too slow but if you put 76 on his back I could swear it was Mike Adams.
Funny, nobody has been talking about Willie Colon. He’s healthy, something he was not and he seems to be playing well. What a shame. Now we face him after the bye. He’ll be motivated.

  • Dwayne Ferguson

I understand what you are saying…. but it is starting to look like we are going to need all the draft picks we can get.

  • Jazz

That wasn’t Max Starks, that guy looked like an Ox! An overweight Ox at that. The Steelers need help bad; Colbert and Tomlin selected this group, it’s their players, their fault. Say whatever you will, the players Colbert and Tomlin have selected are Garbage! Everybody is so high on Maurkice Pouncey, I’m not. That guy had one good year, his Rookie Year. After that, he has been mediocre at best; how the hell he keeps getting selected to the Pro Bowl is beyond me. Markus Gilbert, Mike Adams, Foster, they all are Garbage! Yes, I know Adams has only started at that position 4 times, but that kid looks horrible. At times he looks to be disengaged from the play all together. I think that A$$H0!# is on drugs, I really do.
Kevin Colbert hasn’t done a good job of evaluating talent for this team over the past six years. Go back and take a look at the DB’s they have selected, Offensive Linemen, RB’s. That team is in a world of S#%T. Mike Tomlin deserves just as much of the blame; I get so sick of this guy walking the sidelines with such a cool demeanor, sometimes even laughing and joking with his players when they are losing. After losing to the Vikings last Sunday, he even walked acrossed the field and shook his old buddy’s hand, laughed and giggled. WTF! Then he goes into his Press Conference and puts on a Game Face as though he is completely disgusted. You gotta be kidding me!

  • Jazz

Why would you want to bring in a guy that weighs 400LBS? Okay, I’m probably exaggerating, I’m sure he only weighs 380. Now I’m being sarcastic; all jokes aside, the reports out of Pittsburgh was the reason they didn’t resign him was due to his weight. The guy has clearly put on additional weight since he last played in Pittsburgh and is not in shape. Bringing back Max Starks would be like jumping out of the frying pan right into the fire. The situation wouldn’t be resolved at all. The Steelers need to either pick up a FA next offseason, or draft a LT. And judging by history, we all see that when it comes to drafting Offensive Lineman and DB’s, that organization doesn’t have a clue of what they’re doing. Sad! Just Pathetic! The Steelers use to be one of the best if not the best organization when it came to drafting players. I’m assuming this is Colberts and Tomlins players, if I’m correct, take that responsibility from both of them. They both should be reprimanded for destroying a once proud organization. I couldn’t believe all of the Chicago Bears Fans I saw at Heinz Field two weeks ago.

  • Jazz

Thanks Mike Tomlin, Kevin Colbert. These are your players.

  • treeher

Too many bumps on the head, I’d say. Rest in peace, Max.

  • Curtis

According to this video who is worse Adams trying to block Allen or Starks.

  • Steeler Wheeler

    They’re giant, lumbering oafs.

  • sixburgh06

Your right he will be motivated. Which means he will comitt at least 3 holding penalties & possible an unsportsmanlike call as well.

  • JT

BFD, Lemonier gets backside pursuit and gets an assist on a run 2 yards past the LOS and that is newsworthy?

  • MC

i’ll admit that ive always had a soft spot for him which clouds my judgement.

I stand by my statement that i’d rather him than Whimper if Adams went down. I’d still start Adams over Starks off course cause the kid has upside, i just don’t trust this Whimper or Levi Brown yet.
Agreed though, a left tackle is our first round priority in the draft.
