Steelers G Ramon Foster Considers Himself Day-To-Day With Tolerable Pain

Pittsburgh Steelers left guard Ramon Foster practiced on Monday as the team returned to practice following the bye week, but he considers himself day-to-day right now with the pectoral strain that re-aggravated in the loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

“Its fine,” said Foster following Monday’s practice. “We’ll see how it is on Wednesday whenever we put on pads.”

As far as pain goes, Foster did admit he still has some and that it indeed is something they will have to monitor closely moving forward to the game against the New York Jets.

“It’s tolerable,” Foster said about the pain. “It’s one of those things that you just deal with. It will be a coach’s final decision on everything though.”

Should Foster miss the game against the Jets, the Steelers will either start Kelvin Beachum or Guy Whimper in his place. Beachum finished the game against the Vikings at the left guard position once Foster left, so it might come down to whether or not the team thinks newly acquired tackle Levi Brown can get up to speed with the offense fast enough to play left tackle now that Mike Adams has been benched.

    How about Brown at LG?

  • SteelersDepot

Took reps at left tackle today, so I would think no for left guard initially.

  • Bilgewater D

He just strikes me as a guy that would do much better at guard. A lot of his issues with speed rushers would be covered up at guard.

For that matter, why not see if Adams can play guard.

Mike Adams for guard. Not just this week but long term. He is definitely a better pass blocker than a run blocker. Maybe guard is his spot?

  • Bilgewater D

I’m assuming you accidentally mixed up pass blocking and run blocking. I see Alex Boone, a 6-7 guard with a similar skill set succeed and wonder if Adams could do the same.

  • Lamarr56

Yes sorry, I fixed it. Yah also Howie Long’s son has looked very good his is also a very tall guard with a similar build to Adams.

Agree. Why keep putting a square peg in a round hole? Look, Adams has NFL talent. But, currently he is not up to par to play LT. The Steelers should take the Beachum approach and turn him into a positional player. Start working him at guard and if he wants to eventually end up as a starting LT, make him earn it. The plug n play or on the job training approach is not working.

Mike Tomlin just watched the Geno Smith’s Jets huge win over Falcons…

” not sure we could unleash hell next week…just yet”.
then Pops open a beer, gulps and ponders in typical MT silence…

Our best option right now might be LT Gilbert, LG Adams and RT Brown. With Beachum backing up all positions and cut Whimper. Then bring up another G/C guy. Boy I would have like to have seen Ebernate progress this year. Damn injuries!
