Steelers Injury Report: Injuries Suffered By Levi Brown And David Johnson Potentially Serious

Following the Pittsburgh Steelers 19-6 win Sunday over the New York Jets, head coach Mike Tomlin address ed the injury situation coming out the game during his post game press conference.

Tackle Levi Brown (triceps) injured his triceps during pregame warmups and did not play as a result. Tomlin said he would be evaluated when the team returns to Pittsburgh. Tomlin didn’t want to speculate as to whether or not it was the same triceps he injured in 2012, but did say it could potentially be serious.

Tomlin called the hand/wrist injury that tight end David Johnson suffered early in the game as potentially being serious as well. Johnson did not return to the game.

Defensive end Brett Keisel (rib) suffered a rib injury during the game, but Tomlin did not seem to think it is serious.

“He had ribs of some kind,” said Tomlin. “We’ll take a look at it, but he’s probably going to be limited during the course of the week, but he should perk up toward the vend of next week. We’ll see, though.”

Tomlin did not mention running back Le’Veon Bell during his rundown. Bell appeared to re-injure his foot during the game but did manage to return after being checked out.

UPDATE: Brown injured the same triceps that he hurt last year that cost him the entire season and Johnson suffered a dislocated wrist.

If this were a car purchase, would it be observed under the lemon law? Any Attorneys out there?

  • WilliamSekinger

eh it was a conditional pick which although we don’t know what the conditions are, one would assume the Steelers FO protected themselves against this possibility.

  • Terrence Phelps

    SMH…oh well.

  • T R

    OMG so right..

  • T R

Ok here comes Mike Adams back he will play good now.. he got scared from the inactive today..

  • T R

I think it was covered under the conditional pick thang… like gap insurance..

  • GunsDontKillWoodleyKills

So how does one hurt a tricep in pregame?

  • Nolrog

Serious tricep injury, in warm ups. Not even a game, or at least practice. Is this guy made of glass?

  • Nolrog

Likely the conditions were the number of starts he made for the Steelers this year. I for one would have guessed more than zero.

  • CW

More likely the number of total snaps played, because if it’s starts then they could hit the wrong side of the number if Levi Brown starts like six games, but plays less than 50 total snaps across all six games.

As it stands it’s zero either way.

  • gene mann

well if it was conditinal on getting past Pre games maybe we get the pick back.

  • gene mann

so we need to see what Joe Long can do now since i sure their is no other OT out their.

  • Beaver Falls Hosiery

    Who is Levi Jones?

  • RW

Yeah…. Call me crazy for thinking Beachum might have a tougher time next week…

  • RW

The guy we should have gotten to play left tackle…

  • chris ward

What could they be doing during pregame that could lead Levi Brown to have tricep injury. That is some real bad luck.

  • walter mason

I wonder if its the same arm?

I cant believe Whimper was active over Adams. I guess its the doghouse thing. If we lost the game it would have been a dumb move.

  • Curtis

I think it was a 2015 conditional pick, he didn’t play a snap so were not losing a pick if I understand it right. Arizona paid majority of his contract for the year. I also think we got him for the veteran minimum.
I THINK THATS WHAT WAS REPORTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • NW86

I’m sure it was because Whimper played some guard in the preseason. Adams and Levi, as far as I know, have only played tackle. When you’re only dressing 7 OL (effectively 6 as it turned out today), you need the backup to be position flexible.

  • Dan

During warmups?! Good golly, he wins the Byron Leftwich award for durability.

  • Dr. Doom

Finalist for the C. Batch age of wonder award

  • Christopher Wilkes

So, if picking up Brown was critical, then what do you call our next move?

  • gene mann

Well thankfully we did not have to pay Brown a full salary

  • Mike.H

don’t confuse him with Levi Strauss.

  • Tom Savastano

Winning cures all, if they did not win yesterday, I would be ticked they traded for a damaged guy…now, just happy they won and are back in the mix!

  • stairman

now who will the steelers pick up? starks……

Critical? I think is was a panic move driven by an 0-4 record…if the team were 2-2 or better, the Brown deal doesn’t happen imo.

That said, Brown is a stop gap…I can’t see PIT giving up on a 2nd rd pick so quickly…With Brown out, I think we’ll see Adams again this season, maybe as a RT.

  • Christopher Wilkes

Yeah, CRITICAL. That’s what it was described as by Mike Tomlin, and written about quite a bit on this very site.

I know what was said…I get that. It was critical.

Missing my point…was it critical because of how bad Adams was playing, or was it critical because they were 0-4.

  • Christopher Wilkes

It has to be because of Adams, because you can’t remove a guy that’s playing well, although you could say that 0-4 had a part in it as well, but def not 0-4 being the sole cause of the move.

  • CrazyTerry

Another 650K of cap space down the drain. They could have gotten a better backup player for the money they are paying him, Whimper and Spaeth.

Agreed…both were factors…I didn’t tape the MIN game but I have the others and Adams wasn’t MIN bad in every game…playing his worst game in the 4th straight loss made him an easy target.
