Steelers Offensive And Defensive Snap Counts From Week 6 – Jets

Below are the snaps counts from the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday win over the New York Jets along with some observations

Offensively, not much sticks out except for the fact that Will Johnson saw more playing time thanks to the team leading in the second half. Tight end David Paulson also saw an increase in snaps but that was a result of David Johnson leaving the game early with a wrist injury. Heath Miller played every offensive snap in addition.

On defense, the Steelers were able to use their quarters package quite a bit thanks to the team having the lead. This resulted in Vince Williams and Steve McLendon coming off the field in those situations so that two defensive backs could enter the game.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.
  • steeltown

Interesting.. I thought I saw Paulson out there quite a bit, obviously due to the D.Johnson injury. Im still not sure I wouldn’t rather see a Miller & Palmer TE duo now that DJ is out, but hey they got the job done

  • cencalsteeler

Me too. I am not a big fan of Paulson. Let’s see what Palmer can do, hell, throw Will Johnson into the te mix just so he gets more involved. That guy is Superman stuck in the phone booth. Someone open the door and let this guy out!

  • JAMESH

How does Suisham get in on 11 ST plays? Thanks.

  • srdan

Hayward getting time at the expense of Kiesel is exciting. I love what Kiesel stands for, but the truth is inevitable.
I agree with you guys, they need to let Will Johnson play 60%. Especially with this short throwing offense, the guy gets open, blocks well and has good hands. Perfect for that offense.
I was at the game yesterday. Jets are good fans. They all wish they had Cotchery back. More than one said they would gladly trade him for Holmes. I thought that was interesting.

I am excited again! They looked good vs a decent team yesterday. Only thing is that we always look good vs rookie qbs not named Brady.

Palmer is more of a blocking TE so that would make more sense. I would like to see Paulson more out wide to see what he could do there but wasn’t a fan of the pick in the first place.

  • srdan

kickoff, 1 PAT, 4 fieldgoals, and kick off 5 times for the scores.

  • steeltown

Wow, Worilds was in on less then half the Defensive plays, 25snaps but he brought it 6tackles, a sack and FF

  • PA2AK

Paulson and/or Palmer are liabilities as blockers. Rarely a push, and usually forecast play direction. W. Johnson needs to be on the field more, but they need to put him in the traditional FB spot. Give him some steam so he can knock the snot out of someone. Need some more intensity on offense. With W. Johnson being targeted more than either Paulson or Palmer (interesting you could just call them PP’s…sorry childish but fitting)…apparently they like him as a receiving threat too. Just can’t wrap my head around not using WJ out of the backfield as a lead blocker. Want to increase that paltry run average…give him a plow out front. The effective run teams usually have a solid, yet unsung FB leading the way.

  • PA2AK

Neither Palmer OR Paulson caught a ball. Neither can block. There’s room for improvement…start with putting the best players on the field and anyone NOT named Paulson.

  • PA2AK

Heyward is actually getting PT because he earned it. Hood is now getting PT at the expense of Kiesel…for now.
Agree with W.J….though they need to have him lead form the traditional FB spot more often. Yes, easy read for a LB, but you put him in a position to with the battle…lot better shape than slamming 3 TE to one side on the line when only 1 of em can block.

  • PA2AK

if Lebeau keeps it up…I’m thinking we are going to see a lot more of the LB by committee approach. Could be seeing things but it looked like a lot of success when it was LB’s and Heyward all standing up at the line. certainly dialed up the right pressure yesterday. Jones needs to settle himself a bit and lock down those tackles. Not sure who I like RIGHT NOW between he and Worilds. Worilds knows the assignments better, but Jones is clearly the guy long term. I wouldn’t change the depth chart, but Worilds needs to keep seeing the field.

  • PA2AK

I would like to see Paulson carrying someones pads or wiping off the footballs.

  • Ahmad

Shamarko Thomas has been mighty quiet when he’s on the field. I’ll take that as a good thing because that means he’s not getting burned.

  • steeltown

That’s why I mention Palmer, he’s a far better in-line blocker than Paulson, he had one or two very nice catches in preseason and he’s shown toughness and willingness to thump someone on special teams coverage

  • steeltown

Would be nice if we could keep Worilds long term for a modest price, as a backup swing OLB

  • PA2AK

I think I’m just disgusted with Paulsons lack of ability/effort to the point that I see him on the field in run situations and W. Johnson on the sideline…really grinds my gears, lol

  • Steeler Wheeler

He’s been playing slot corner, so yes, quiet is good. Put him in at safety and you will see both splash plays and terrible mistakes.

  • SteelerFanInMD

It is nice to see the O-line play a full game without someone getting injured.
