Will The Steelers Consider T DeMarcus Love A Stone Worth Turning Over?

According to Pro Football Talk, the Minnesota Vikings plan on waiving tackle DeMarcus Love on Tuesday now that his four game suspension is over. Since that news surfaced, several have asked me if I think the Pittsburgh Steelers will have interest in claiming the former sixth-round draft pick and I suppose it could really go either way with him.

Love, who was suspended this past April for four games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, didn’t play at all during his 2012 rookie season because he was placed on injured reserve with a pectoral injury. The Arkansas product did play both tackle spots for the Vikings during the 2013 preseason and only gave up one sack in 72 snaps played.

The Steelers could use a young tackle right now on the roster and head coach Mike Tomlin said he would turn over every stone looking for options at the position following the loss a few weeks ago to the Chicago Bears.

If Love is deemed by the Steelers as a stone worth turning over, they should have a pretty good chance at claiming off of waivers thanks in part to their 0-4 start. However, the New York Giants are also 0-4 and they too could have interest in the young tackle as well due to their own offensive line needs.

Love’s contract is cheap, so he might very well be worth a flyer. We will just have to sit and wait 24 hours to see if the Steelers have any love for him.
