Let It All Out Thread

The Pittsburgh Steelers lost 55-31 Sunday to the New England Patriots and not only was it the most points allowed in franchise history, the 610 net yards allowed by the defense was also the most allowed in franchise history.

Ok, get it all out of your system here now. Let it all out. Clean your fan colon.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

    *Steelers Depot servers crash*

  • steeltown

    {shaking my head}

There’s going to be quite a few players (and coaches /player personnel) losing their jobs this offseason

  • Kevin Gobleck

I FEEL EXTREMELY CONFIDENT IN OUR HIGH SCORING OFFENSE TO HELP US WIN OUT SO WE GO 10-6, AND WE WIN THE AFC NORTH!

  • Kevin Gobleck

I have a feeling Clark may be one of them

  • Berlusconi

At least Baltimore lost to Cleveland. Not that it helps the Steelers, but it’s bad for the Ravens, so thats positive.

  • Kevin Gobleck

Is it me or does it just seem that we aren’t as disciplined anymore

  • Kevin Gobleck

i think if we win against them on thanksgiving we wont be last in the division (being that we both wont win much more)

  • pittsburghjoe

And exactly why were they having Ben throw the ball during the last series? Did Haley have a bet with his brother in law on exactly how many of Ben’s ribs could be broke after the game was over?

  • Chris Wilkes

I don’t think I can let it all out, cause I’m in a state of shock after that 4th qtr. I’m actually giggling at how pathetic that defensive effort was. If I was Tomlin I would make the defense take the bus home.

  • J&LSteeler

Not just you. Seems like a bunch of unprofessionals.

  • GunsDontKillWoodleyKills

    As one coach would say…”Obviously”

  • RyanW

First thing I wanna say is the whole Fire Tomlin crap is stupid. His first losing season and its not even over yet. He aint getting fired. They didnt fire Noll in the mid 80’s they didnt fire Cowher from 98-2000 or after 2003. Haley called a pretty good game. Lebeau and the D really sucked it up this game. The refs were awful they were calling PI on our D for doing the same crap NE did to us all game. Bottom line we played good for the 2nd and 3rd quarter and well that was about it. I still think we can finish 7-9 or better if we make some changes but 5-11 is definitely possible as well but we all know some changes will be coming in the off season and I can say 100% Tomlin wont be and nor should he be fired after 1 losing season.

  • Chris Wilkes

Yep, I couldn’t agree more except I don’t think that’s Haley’s call. Probably a head coaching decision, but you know 10 year olds playing Madden manage the game better than Tomlin.

  • pittsburghjoe

And does Tomlin think he gets style points by being the coolest cat on the any sideline? Well..um…OBVIOUSLY!

  • Jarod Wells

WOW!! That is all I can say after this loss. I cannot remember seeing a worse performance from the steelers D. I hope the front office has realized that we can no longer disregard our flaws. We need multiple picks in the first two rounds next year. I will still watch and root for them no matter how many they loose. I just have to have faith they can get this turned around within the next two seasons.

  • Richard Edlin

The coaches yes … so many of the players have enough dead money attached that they’re safe.

  • Brandon James

Watching some of these games is just horrendous. One game the defense is amazing and the offense sucks, the next it flips. This team has never been prepared on both sides of the ball a single game all season. Also, Clark looks lost out there as does the O-Line.

  • pittsburghjoe

How about if we help Clark out with an early start to his broadcasting career?

  • rizzo29

Did any of Noll’s or Cowher,s teams give up 55 its you idiot

  • Andrew Kiess

Hire back every coach they’ve ever had, fire them, cut Polamalu and sign him back as tha janitor at Heinz Field, and then fire Bruce Arians again. There.

  • pittsburghjoe

    Mike Tomlin say’s, “obviously”.

  • Eddie Cruz

once again it was all three phases of the game playing well and terrible in different spots of the game. Ultimately the inability to score points early and force turnovers or turnovers on downs late scripted our demise. The season is over officially to make a run at the playoffs. its time to start thinking for next season. I believe we should go defense the entire draft. I can deal with the inconsistency on offense but our defense makes me cringe. we need to get some fierce defensive players and give our team a chance……its time to completely gut this roster and build from the ground up.

  • Shea Fahr

I honestly do not even know where to start but I certainly agree that people should be held accountable for their quality of work. The thing is, the investment in cap space placed on a Franchise QB (Feast or Famine QB) and Franchise OLB (Feast or Famine as well), I am not sure these problems are going to go away very soon.

  • Richard Edlin

One of the bits that no one ever seems to talk about is how Ben directly contributes to our poor offensive line. Whilst freak accidents (e.g. De Castro’s hit on Pouncey) happen, the more mundane kind is much more likely to happen when the QB keeps the ball in play longer and makes it easier to have players falling over themselves.

An extended play is a longer period of time during which our line is exposed to danger – we’re never going to have a decent line if Ben doesn’t stop throwing them under the bus.

  • RyanW

Ok there internet tough guy not they didnt but Nolls team did lose a game 49-10 does that answer that for you? Idiot….

  • J&LSteeler

You’re right. Tomlin’s not going anywhere. Walt Coleman has always called terrible games for the Steelers. Come to think of it, there’s a few refs who I hate to see officiating our games – Jeff Triplett to name another…

  • Jay Jaber

Big Ben deserves a big time receiver imagine Antonio brown on one side and mike Evans(Texas a&m) on the other

  • chris ward

2014 draft needs to hurry up. Need to replace older players on defense and need a legit LT to protect Ben.

  • Chris92021

We suck and we quit on defense. Other than that, everything is fine.

  • Chris92021

He’s probably going to retire at the end of the season and go to work for ESPN full time.

  • Nolrog

I was disappointed to see the game get so far out of hand after we tied the score. This is not going to be a quick turn around. It’s going to take a while to fix this mess.

  • Ike Evans

They quit on defense….didn’t think I would see that day

  • Kevin Gobleck

That would be dream combo, but when would get a LT if we were to get a WR in the first?

  • ND_Steel

Without a doubt, absolutely no discipline. They were taking turns trying to do it all by themselves instead of buying into any team game plan. Obvious lack of leadership amongst the players and coaches. Its been like an avalanche gaining momentum, seemingly starting with dismissal of Bruce Arians, along with departures of Farrior, Harrison, Ward, Starks, A. Smith, Hampton, Hoke, Butler (LBs coach) etc. Replaced by no one of any significance. Now we have outspoken Clark, Haley, no O Line, ineffective outside LBs, etc.

  • Chris Wilkes

Well, when Beachum completely whiffs on a block that also contributes to injury as it did in Gilbert’s case.

  • CW

Honestly, the team is probably dead in the water right now, but Bell is looking like a good selection, Jones is improving, Shamarko Thomas looks like the future at free safety, Vince Williams looks like he will be a good starter soon, and generally things as dark as they are are fixable over the long term. There’s a good core with this team right now that is young with some very good veterans in the mix as well.

It’s a bad season, but the team has a lot to build with for the future. And at this point I hope the Steelers don’t win another game, get the 3rd, 4th or 5th overall pick and flip that to the Browns for both of their 1st round picks plus a couple of additional picks and use those picks to get a great left tackle and Mike Evans or another of those great number 1 wide receivers that are coming out in this year’s draft.

  • Josh

Im just tired of hiding my face in my terrible towel because when the defense is good the offense is bad when the defense is bad the offense is good. They have multiple problems and too many to point fingers at… they need to start giving more time to thomas instead of clark to start off. DO NOT FIRE ANY COACHES… this season is solely on the players…ben needs to group the offense up and some leader of the defense needs to step up and lead better because this is simply unacceptable.

  • rizzo29

No still not 55 and Noll has 4 rings.smarten up

  • GunsDontKillWoodleyKills

Once they game was tied at 24, they were satisfied. The Pats weren’t. Obviously.

  • CW

Hope for utter 2011 Colts like disaster and get a 3rd, 4th, or 5th pick and flip it to the Browns for both of their 1st round picks plus at least another 3rd and a 5th round pick. Then we get both Evans and a great left tackle.

  • Chris Wilkes

I hear ya about the draft slot, but I always wonder what the team would be like mentally after such a poor season. Could they even recover from a 2-14 season?

  • Kevin Gobleck

If we were to pull of Lewan, and Evans i would be satisfied

  • Robert Truax

Keith butler is still with the team

  • CW

Big Ben would hate that sort of record so yes he’d probably be on fire the following year.

  • J&LSteeler

like I had said before, the offensive line was offensive…

  • Mike.H

He will look handsome in that raspberry / green bow
    tie….. [ men's depot ] I guarantee it!

  • RyanW

Its still a loss by 39 points versus a loss by 24 genius. Yeah Noll has 4 rings. Tomlin has 1 and Cowher has 1 and Cowher had 3 losing seasons and you think Tomlin should be fired after 1 losing season and 1 game where we give up 55 points and you tell me to smarten up? Yeah that makes sense…..

  • HopalongCassidy

This is a bad football team that needs a major overhaul. Frankly, I’d start with getting rid of Tomlin and his entire staff.

  • Mike Sweeney

They aren’t going away. I’d like to hear the coaching staff, be held accountable for what’s going on. If that’s how they “prepare” the men, then I’m terrified.

  • HopalongCassidy

How much are you willing to wager on that ? I’m looking for some easy money.

  • Kevin Gobleck

in all fairness though Tomlin won with Cowhers team, and made it their with the remnant of Cowhers team. Now is when Tomlin needs to prove he can have a team that can win constantly

  • ND_Steel

I agree, but I don’t think a good O Line is part of the formula to win with Ben. We just need a decent O Line and let him do what he does. If we don’t like how he plays, find someone else. Why fix what wasn’t all that broke. To be effective, he is going to hold on to the ball, sometimes too long. I think BA understood this, WRs used to say they practiced the broken play a lot. Haley wants him to throw on time. He isn’t that type of QB, why do we keep trying to make him one? Need him to be a leader, not a square peg we try to force into a round hole.

  • Kevin Gobleck

now i said i was confident, not looking to give people money haha

  • HopalongCassidy

Is he cool or just in a coma ?

  • dgh57

Can’t he start like right NOW!

  • Kevin Gobleck

man i can’t wait to watch espn and hear Clark’s thoughts on whats wrong with the team

  • RyanW

Wasnt all Cowhers team. Same gm who helped build Cowhers team is in place not too mention Rooney picked Ben. But I agree now is when well get a true gauge on Tomlin in how he moves forward from here who he cuts and who he keeps and picks up from here will tell us what we need to know

  • RyanW

Agreed that was a horrible decision on both Haley and Tomlin

  • Eric

I would like to start with Garret Glemont the strength & conditioning coach. In the last 3 years, we have had a disproportionate number of injuries and a too many people showing up for camp out of shape. Then I want to look at the pass catching skills of the receivers, especially Mr. Sanders who had good numbers today, but drops too many catchable balls. Mr. Bell dropped 3 easy ones today and tarnished an otherwise OK game. Next I would look at the 3-4 defense. The line gets little penetration (good game today Mr. Heyward), and the LB’s are not getting sacks. Last, but maybe most importantly, we need to look at the performance of certain players in relation to their contracts, This will be unpopular, but Troy, Ike and Lamar are not playing up to their pay grades.

  • Eric

Clark is seeing the ghost of a rookie receiver leaving him in the dust.

  • Bell Cow

What is this team’s identity? Seriously, the front office needs to answer that question first before they can move forward.

  • ND_Steel

There is obviously no chemistry with Haley and the offense. He needs to go. Lebeau may opt to retire; I think he’s earned that right to decide, but it may be time. Special teams coach can go too, not impressed with that unit at all. Let Tomlin rebuild a staff and make another go at it. Lack of player leadership is most concerning.

  • TheBlitz

How is bad and poor tackling on the coaches ? Common on guys Lebeau isn’t the one missing tackles and giving poor effort on the field allowing no name players to catch 50+ yards TD

  • Mike Sweeney

Good point on the strengthening coach. Totally, agree!!!!

  • Mike Sweeney

It’s been stolen and has yet to be found. Hope they catch the crook.

  • cencalsteeler

    Chiefs

  • Josh

I agree but only with the leadership. the special teams is better than its been in awhile. The chemistry is there for the offense but not for the line. Lebeau is the best defensive mind in football..troy and clark are slipping up and giving up big plays which are killing us

  • Kevin Gobleck

It’s all about how you get back up, if he chooses to do nothing and let things “work themselves out” he’ll be gone. but i have a feeling that he’ll set things straight…. hopefully

  • Bell Cow

Agreed. Especially about the 34 defense. I’ve been posting on here for a while that our defensive personnel doesn’t match the 34 anymore. They need to seriously consider allowing Tomlin to implement the Tampa 2 next year.

  • Kevin Gobleck

Ike and llamar i agree, but Troy is still good, a turnover this week and last, and multiple tackles behind the line of scrimmage

  • Whitesauce

Why do people keep saying that Tomlin won with Cowher’s players. It’s just stupid. It’s not how the team works. If inheriting players was so easy, the list of Super Bowl-winning coaches would include Ray Handley and Richie Pettibone. If there is a problem with the talent, it falls on the GM and his scouts. Cowher had a bad stretch between 1998 and 2000 and he didn’t get fired. I suspect Tomlin will stick around, too..

  • Brendon Glad

Looks like the team has quit on Tomlin. Resembling nearly the exact path that John Gruden took in Tampa.
I doubt that Tomlin will get fired, but then again, there’s a lot more season left. If that’s the effort they are going to give, then 3-13 is not out of the question. And then I won’t be so sure…especially if they deliver a couple more debacles like that.

I have officially flipped on the season, and now wins will annoy me. We need way too much help to hocus-pocus our way to a 7-9 and the 16th pick. We all know they are bad, so I’m not in the mood to be teased by them.

The catch phrase for the 2013 Steelers is “chicken soup”. If your team is feeling a little under-the-weather…nothing like a little chicken soup to get that pep back in your step.

  • Kevin Gobleck

and it’s not just that, but they play lazy when it gets later in the game. DOWN WITH THE CONDITIONING COACH!!!

  • Aric Brown

Tomlin is one of the most widely respected coaches (by players) across the league.. he is a players coach.. I don’t think anybody has quit on him

  • rizzo29

I agree with Shamarko but watching him against Gronk was tough a little bit of a height mismatch.he,s the future over Clark

  • RyanW

    I agree with you 100%.

  • Aric Brown

Its just not a good football team… huge mistakes made on both sides of the ball by veteran guys.. Ryan Clark has missed almost as many tackles as he has made this year… and Ben is turning the ball over entirely too much… the OLINE has always sucked so i don’t think we can continue to blame Bens turnovers completely on them

  • Aric Brown

because tomlin did win with cowhers players… players retire, they age, they fall out of their prime

  • Aric Brown

the identity of the pittsburgh steelers the last few years has been play down to the competition and don’t start playing football until the 3rd quarter..

  • rizzo29

Coaches are suppose to teach proper technique

  • Guest

One of the greatest defensive minds in NFL history and all of a sudden he doesn’t know how to coach proper tackling technique? I think I’ve heard it all.

  • Shea Fahr

Being the Most Respected Coach and Being the Best NFL Coach are 2 totally different things. Just because your Employees like you does NOT make you a good Boss.

  • Cha Chai

I wouldn’t dare put the whole thing on McBriar…but he did set the tone for the hatefulness. Some time should be devoted to watching good punters, since it seems like no one on the staff has ever seen one to know how to evaluate them.

  • Aric Brown

    they meaning everybody but TP43

  • ErikH

One of the greatest defensive minds in NFL history and all of a sudden he doesn’t know how to coach proper tackling technique? I think I’ve heard it all.

  • Cha Chai

It’s no longer fair to call it a team…it’s a coalition of guys who play football. where is the cohesiveness?

  • Shannon Stephenson

This is just a poorly coached team period. Not sure how many wide open receivers the Pats had open and how many miscues on ST’s and the inability for the offense to have a decent blocked game or consistancy in the run game. It is all areas all the time which comes down to coaching. You can not pin it on a few players because they all seem to make major mistakes at different times in the game.

  • Bell Cow

Why do people always think that drafting a linemen with an high pick is a good idea? The reality is that position takes years to develop and a lot of those players never live up to expectations. Some of better linemen have been cast away free agents like Flozell Adams and Justin Hartwig.

There were five tackles selected in the first round of the 2013 draft, including three of the first four picks.

For the most part, those picks haven’t paid any dividends for those teams. According to Pro Football Focus, No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher is rated 71st of 73 offensive tackles who have played at least 25% of his team’s snaps. Second pick Luke Joeckel is rated 59th, fourth pick Lane Johnson is 67th, 11th pick D.J. Fluker is 31st and 19th pick Justin Pugh is 55th. Aside from Fluker, none of those guys would be much of an upgrade.

  • ND_Steel

Sorry, I was thinking Ray Horton.

  • ErikH

I think being too much of a “players coach” can lead to situations just like we are seeing. You can’t be buddy-buddy and just expect the players to motivate themselves. That approach might work with veteran players, but the rookies need a stronger presence.

  • RASTA

Definitely the most unprepared and undisciplined Steelers team ever fielded in the 40+ years I have been watching them….and they seem to save their most embarrassing games for national TV. Butler new DC, Clark new Sapp sidekick, anybody as new OC, and Tebow as new HC, bcuz I don’t think it would be possible to coach worse than Tomlin at this point! I am so disappointed in this group these last 16+ games. Go Steelers always, but let’s just get a great draft pick at this point.

  • rizzo29

No, that,s no what i,m saying its the LB,DL, secondary coaches that it should fall on

  • Bell Cow

I want Sammy Watkins from Clemson. He’s going to be the next great NFL receiver.

  • cencalsteeler

Simply put, I’m tired of other teams breaking NFL records against us!

  • Shea Fahr

2-6 IS their Identity. This Castle began to crumble with the loss to the Packers in the Super Bowl..This is nothing new.

  • Rednecksrule

Tampa 2 is a coverage not a defense. Do you mean switch to a 4 3 defense? The Steelers don’t have the personnel for that either. You have to get pressure from defensive lineman and you seriously think Heyward or Hood are going to be able to pressure anyone? You are right though in that the 3 4 requires better linebackers and they don’t have that now.

  • Chad H

This team is a reflection of their worthless head coach.
Tomlin lacks leadership and motivation. The Steelers will continue to play like this until he is gone.

  • jtw

clark is done, Just jumping way too many fakes…..really lost a step this year
Ben just needs to learn to live another down for once. Way too many sacks on him.. Needs to throw it away more….Haley called
a good game and Heyward looked good. Jarvis looks lost. Shmarko was overmatched against Gronkowski on some plays but at least made the takles instead of trying to blow him up and get on ESPN like Clark. Time to rebuild and play the rookies.

  • ND_Steel

What chemistry do you see on offense? They look completely out of sinc. It takes 9 mins, 15 curl routes, 3 sacks, and 10 2 yd runs to get in fg range. Special teams have been average, but cost us last two games: blocked punt, two missed short FGs, a bonehead touch of what should have been a muffed punt return and gave up a big punt return at key time in game when we should have thrown a quick pass out to the uncovered gunners. On the other side of the ledger, we’ve had a few good punt returns and good kickoff coverage.

  • Rednecksrule

I truly do not understand how Colbert and Tomlin cannot $%^ing field an offensive line worth crap. Of the many failures in their era, this is the most glaring. Roethelisburger gets creamed every game… every game. Brady or Manning or Brees could not possibly operate with the offensive lines that have existed in Tomlin/Colbert era. Now they are whiffing on defensive players too.

I give Tomlin credit for winning and going to another Super Bowl I do not think that he and Colbert know NFL level talent from their buttholes at this point….

  • Matt Searls

I know I’ve been spoiled as a steelers fan but this losing thing sucks..

  • Rick Mooney

It starts with the coach Tomlin, the team is a reflextion of him, no emotion!! Where is our hard hitting defense that even if you beat us youd get your butt whipped? Troy making 11 million? he needs to go, thats 3 starters we can get for him!! Thomas will be ok as will Jarvis Jones this defense takes time. Its sad that we could easily be 4-4 and in the hunt even as bad as we played. No one is really that good in the nfl anymore!

  • Chris Wilkes

A new coach, new scheme, and a new QB for the offense were added to a very good defense. They’ve also had a top notch punter. None of those things, besides a punter, will change for us next year. We need wins and confidence.

  • Burt Reynolds

LeBeau must go. I would legitimately keep 10-15 guys on the roster and trade or release the rest. I’d start with trades of #7 and #56. You’d probably break-even on Ben if you traded him in March (I wouldn’t give him an extension. He needs the Great Wall of China as his line.) Send the prodigal son back to Cleveland, for 1st, 1st, 2nd and help stop this damn downward momentum. Build the defense like you did in the 70’s. The Steelers are basically like the plague, and I made sure to tell them that. It’s not going to suddenly get better. Complete overhaul. Colbert, Khan. Later, boys

  • Kevin Gobleck

maybe we can just run a 5-2 defense that ought to generate enough pressure

  • Chris Ranieri

Hypothetical situation, someone help me out if this seems reasonable…

Velasco starts next year at center, Pouncey moves to LG. Decastro to RG. Draft a quality LT (J. Matthews?) and your choice of what we have left at RT? Is this a possible move?

I understand there is a lot of negativity on this board and it is well warranted, but I like our youth movement on offense, I just wish M. Wheaton was in there taking snaps this season so he could get experience to bust on to the scene next year.

Two lombardis and one losing season in roughly a decade, we are some spoiled kids. Go Steelers!

  • Rednecksrule

You are going to have to get used to it because this team is a long way from winning. 2 and 6 and blown out in an historic fashion by an average Patriot team after going on the road to lose to many bad teams is not a team which is a player or two away from being a contender…

  • Rednecksrule

A 5 2 is a run stopping defense. That is essentially what the 3 4 is because they usually drop the two linebackers into a down position–you will notice that the useless Woodley and the right wide linebacker are usually dropped down. Stopping the run isn’t what it used to be– see Brady and his eye popping stats today….

  • Rednecksrule

It is good that the Pirates are getting good and the Penguins continue to be a contender because it looks like the Steelers from the 1960s are back…

  • Kevin Gobleck

fine fine fine, run a 2-5 defense haha

  • Burt Reynolds

I’d prefer a 1-6. You need a Sapp like 3 technique and surround him with Clowney, two other pass rushing OLB’s and three ILB’s

  • Don

About Heyward, yes, I think he can get penetration.

  • Rednecksrule

Adams has gotten beat every way possible. He has gotten speed rushed, bull rushed, swim moved, ripped… it would be nice that it were merely Ben holding the ball but Adams sucks.

  • Luke Shabro

The game is out of hand but hey lets let the only good thing we have going for us get wrecked behind a jail break offensive line. Emphasis on OFFENSIVE!!

  • Don

What about DB communication? WRs are getting WIDE open all the time. Something is definitely wrong with the principles they’re teaching or the understanding of them.

  • Rubem Dornas

Great! But how many of these guys are going to be injured in the preseason?

In fact we have a reasonable O-line but they never play together. We need tough guys that are not injury-prone. Gilbert is constantly injured. Pouncey too (although he was really unlucky this time).

  • alex

game one loss of Pouncey and Foote being felt deeper and deeper into the season!

ouch, bendover season, the cup is not half full, its shattered from the table!

  • Luke Shabro

That’s a really good point. it seems like they were like “OK we can hang with the Pats” and then mailed it in and got smoked.

  • alex

hope thats a long green spliff, cause it needs to last another 8 weeks…

  • Michael Briscoe

Well let me chime in, Clark thanks for the great years but your done, the 3-4 needs to go tampa 2 anyone? O line and Oline coach, cant have the same technique problems every frikkin week so we need something better there. What happened to 2nd half adjustments? This is a very embarrassing Steeler Team that gave up in the 4th never thought Id see that. Coaching changes are coming

  • Kevin Gobleck

EXACTLY!!! Tuit from Notre Dame could fit that role

  • Aharon Moyer

I really don’t think this team takes shots down the field anymore. I remember a Cower year where they were tops in the league in explosive plays and they were winning left and right. Remember how Ben would make deep passing plays early in his career? I used to stand up and they were touchdowns. Now it’s him over throwing or it’s a pick. I love the Steelers, but this is really hard to watch. The defense is bad. I can excuse this loss, but Ten, Oak, Min? There’s your problem losses.

  • Kevin Gobleck

People like to gamble i guess, there is always a chance to get the next Long, Thomas, or Peters. Or perhaps the next Levi Brown

  • Rednecksrule

NOT Tampa 2!! That is a pass coverage scheme, not a defense. The Steelers do not have the defensive tackles right now to play a four three defense. Now it is true that their linebacking corps is sucking so the three four isn’t working that well… but you have to have real ass kicking defensive tackles… think Joe Greene And Ernie Holmes to play a four three defense.

  • bpeoples

    I’m with Kevin. Lol

  • Ghost_rider60

There are no animals on this team. Not one Greene Lambert or Harrison. Let em play, Tomlin wants detail, for them to be perfect. Just let em tear off the head of anyone with a different helmet . You have to play football to understand football. Tomlin and Hayley gotta go. Really enjoyed Haley being all smiles on the sideline today.

  • Rednecksrule

This loss was very bad too because it exposed the defense as being very poor also–they kind of hung around against average QBs but this was horrendous today. And the Patsies this year are not an elite team.

  • bpeoples

How sad is it that this is the post on Steelers Depot that I was drawn to. Dave, you’re killing me. LOL

  • Tom

Lebeau needs to retire. Team needs to switch to 4-3 and get rid of all defensive players over 30.

  • Michael Briscoe

I agree with you Ryan Tomlin will stay but he does need to run a tighter ship and definitely make some coaching changes. This will be his first losing season and please stop the winning with Cowhers Players crap these players are underachieving and needs a fire in they butts. the 4th quarter give up unacceptable

  • Tom

Polamalu and Clark need to go. Way too much money…….

  • Virdin Barzey

I really am not so sure what folks expected. To be honest, when the game was tied at 24, I was shocked. Do the math and do the history. Brady has always had our number especially in NE. That was the first problem. This Steelers team couldn’t beat a bad Raiders team last week and gave up tons of yards on the ground. Clearly they can’t stop the run.

You can’t stop the run against a great QB that loves to pass = a long day for you. I expected this because if you have been following this team, its not good at all. There are decent pieces but as a collective defense, offense and special teams, its awful. Add to that injuries and you have total embarrassment.

Where does the blame lie? Colbert and Khan. The bad draft picks over the years have finally caught up with us. Management of the cap to win now has cost us with the lack of cap space. Its that simple. The d-line and o-line has been a complete disaster and I’m not sure what the solution will be. That’s where the games are won folks. Last time have you seen that many rookies, playing that much on a Steelers defense?

The formula for Brady is real simple. Pressure right up the middle.

  • RyanW

    Exactly! Thank you.

  • Kevin Gobleck

YES! we can start the extremely sarcastic/optimistic Steelers fan base

  • Richard Edlin

Given that the head coach doesn’t draft the players, I’m not sure how it’s “Tomlin’s team” or “Cowher’s team”. The only way that’d really be the case is if the Steelers were really active in FA … and they aren’t.

  • Eric

Clark is gone next year. Taylor needs to go as well. Woodley should be traded, even if we have pay a portion of his salary to make it work.

  • Richard Edlin

How many minutes are the OL meant to hold the defense back?

  • Kick

I think the talent is there. What I see is a bunch of individuals out there and not a team. I also see a team that has become all talk and no action. It is obvious that the players are not prepared and that falls on the coaching staff. I am sick of the trickery, just line up and play fundamental football. It is like the coaching staff is out smarting themselves.

  • Chris Maxwell

I used to be a Tomlin supporter , but after the approval of Grandpa Dick game plan he needs to get canned if he allow Grandpa back.another season..

  • Chris Wilkes

You’re way off. They didn’t play that bad this game. Ben usually had plenty of time and the running game was the best it’s been all season.

  • Kick

DL is a legend and my favorite d coordinator of all time. That being said I wish he would go back to the basics too. It’s like his players don’t know what they are doing. Tom Brady has Troy p’s number.

  • Richard Edlin

Taylor can’t go now … just the latest to be ‘restructured’.

  • Chris Maxwell

It don’t matter if Ben is out there or not because we can’t win with his careless play or without it. Ben is the main reason for this season, he have lost at least three games by himself.

  • Chris Maxwell

Good thing is not describing Ben, how many TO can this pretender be accounted for ?? 15+ That’s not a good thing.

  • Mike.H

Son of a PITCH, I’m steamed!

In theory, with Le’veon Bell, Decastro, Wheaton and others to refill old aging parts we should be gelling… but… NO’H!

Listen up, 2014! With 5-6 high picks comin’ in and this year’s studs, you better deliver or I’m going after you with MLS… MAJOR LEAGUE SPANKING! I’m out, GD it~!

Aging stars and non-performers will be deleted from 2014 ROSTER!

  • Mike.H

…as Flo from Mel’s diner vintage TV show… “kiss my grits!…”.

  • Chris Maxwell

Troy is still good? He was responsible for two possibly three big plays to go along with several penalties. For every one play that Troy makes he make five bad gambles that cost the team.

  • Michael Briscoe

Agreed, at this point im just thinking the 3-4 with Woriilds and Jones just is not getting to the qb. Tomlin as D coach had the tampa 2 defense same as Dungy just saying Mcceldon and maybe Al woods , Heyward and Beard at the ends, just thinking outloud

  • SG

Wait, no topics on how the steelers are still alive for the playoffs? The only thing that has to happen is all three other AFC North teams have to have their team planes crash and burn and the rest of the Steelers opponents need to forfeit for some reason….and then the division is theirs!

  • Mike.H

I wonder if this thread will approach 500 comments? 1,000?

  • Kevin Gobleck

The one call was complete BS though..

  • http://pittsburghsportsinat.blogspot.com/ bgsteelfan

It’s not “cleaning out your fan colon”, it’s facing the truth. This is not a very good team. It is not a well coached team. It is not a disciplined team. They lack developed talent in key areas. Bad as this game was, it isn’t nearly as far below “the standard” as many would like to admit.

  • Thomas Rancy

the wave of change will wash over this team for better or for worse after this year, will the draft pick be high enough?

  • http://www.nyob.com/ Dr. Doom

Blow it up, period. Offensive line except (Pouncey, DeCastro, Velasco), Blow up the secondary just everyone except Sharmarko & Golden as a reserve.
    Thanks for the memories:
Heath, Spaeth, Clark, Ike, Gay, Troy, Keisel, Cotchery-think Clark from last year that cliff is coming soon.
New Deal Big Ben-17.89 million cap number next year that has to come down.
    Coaching Staff
Receivers, Running Backs Coach are safe. Defensive Line & Line backers coaches are safe. Tomlin is safe -can’t do anything if you don’t have the horses and they don’t. Outside of AB, Sanders, Ben, Bell, DeCastro-who on that offense would start for the top teams in the NFL?
I hope to be honest they don’t win more than six games. We need to get a Left Tackle they don’t have one, not even a serviceable one.

  • http://www.nyob.com/ Dr. Doom

    oh six points sthu

  • http://www.nyob.com/ Dr. Doom

Same team that went 8-8 and started the 2006 season with the same record as these Steelers right look it up

  • r4kolb

So if like you say they are underachieving and need a fire under their butts…..hmm, let’s see…. oh yeah, that is a COACHES job!! Don’t worry all you Tomlin apologists I’m sure he will now promise “To unleash hell”! Almost all of Cowhers teams OVERACHIEVED! They made the playoffs when they really didn’t have the greatest players but they played for him. Are you friggin kiddin me!!! We made it to the Superbowl with O’ Donnell as our QB. You see how great Neil was after he left.

  • r4kolb

I may have to revamp my season record prediction from 5- 11 to 3 -13. I’m thinking they are going to lose to both the Bills and the Lions. Thank goodness Call of Duty Ghosts is coming out to release the frustration. I gotta give Dave Bryan some credit though, he wasn’t a homer and did pick them to lose.

  • Victor

The team is horrible at every aspect of the game. I could only pin it on the stupid coach. He has no clue what he’s doing. It’s been obvious to me the last couple of seasons. The team has really dumb losses to teams they should beat, this year and last year. They’re undisciplined and heartless. Every game we have to wait a quarter or two for stupid Roethlisberger to get in gear, which by that time we’re already down by 10 or 17 points. I really hate when he doesn’t throw the ball to his check down receiver. That guy is always open, but he would rather go for the big play. Ben is the 3 point shooter in basketball who sees the open guy for a lay up, but still shoots the three pointer. It’s just so frustrating to watch my team turn into losers.

  • r4kolb

    159 comments and counting…..that has to be a record…

  • Buccos9

The DBs were brutal today. Clarke let a guy run right by him because he covered a short crossing route instead. Polamalu failed to pick up Amendola running down the middle. The safeties are leaving whole areas of the field wide open, Taylor got beat deep because he was looking into the backfield. These guys are veterans but they are playing like rookies. Unfortunately, the Steelers may not be able to clean house after the season because of dead money concerns. But Lebeau and Haley should be worried about their job security.

  • Eric

All of us fans ignored Sapp and the others that said our defense was getting old and slow. Guess what, they were right. As fantasy GM, I would require Ike and Troy to take major pay cuts next year and be prepared to play less. Ryan Clark, see you on ESPN 8. I would try to trade Woodley for some good value like a #2 draft pick, even if we have to pay 2-3 million of his salary for the next 2 years. The rest of the LB’s can stay, even Worlids at the NFL vet minimum. Brett Kiesel, we love you, but you can come back at the NFL minimum next year and be a back up. Same deal for Ziggy. If we had a dominant, NT, McClendo could move to end.
Ben’s cap hit needs to come down, or he needs to be traded for a #1 pick plus other value. Sanders and his butter fingers can go. Cotchery is playing above his pay grade so I would welcome you back. Use Moye more and hopefully 6′ 3″ Justin Brown gets on the unit and now we have tall receivers. David Johnson needs to stay healthy for once. We absolutely need a left OT and I would hate to draft one in Round 1, but it is our most pressing need. Adams and Gilbert can compete for the starting RT spot. Velasko, Pouncy, Decastro are fine at G/C with Foster and Embernate. We need a big, really big, short yardage back. I think it would be fun to see Heyward run a 3rd & 1. Bell needs to learn how to catch a screen pass, geez. We also need speed in the back field. LeVeon does not have it. We have a very fast full back that can catch yet we never throw to him. What is up with that Todd?
Assuming no trades, drafting would be the best Left OT in round one, hopefully Matthews or Lewan, CB Purifoy in round 2, McCullers, a big NT in round 3, a TE Lynch in round 4, FS Ladler in Round 5, CB Marcus Williams in round 6,
Coaching, Dick your an Icon, but its time for you to step aside and let Butler take over. I would not mind if you switched positions or remained as a special consultant. Nicknell has only been here 1 year, but I was not impressed and that is giving lenience for the injuries. Why did we teach zone blocking in camp and not use it all season, except to cripple Pouncey? Kitby, when will you unit produce? Is it Jacks fault?

  • sean mcmartin

Tomlin will still be there next year. Obviously nothing will be improved.
A steelers D that cannot tackle. time to rebuild and learn the basic fundamentals

  • SteelerCop

    LMAO! :-)

  • John

WE HAVE SERIOUS TALENT GAPS. BELL SEEMS FINE BUT THE RECEIVING CORPS IS AVERAGE WITHOUT WALLACE AND SANDERS IS NEXT TO POSSIBLY LOSE. Two years ago we were looking at wallace, brown, and sanders for maybe six years or more but now we are barely holding on. The O-Line is a disaster and the defense is impossible to comment on. Where do you start? However it is clear that the current group makes way too many mistakes and thus leaves huge holes to exploit.

  • Rod Hedrick

I think Colbert has to go! We haven’t been drafting well and that was the key to all the great teams. We need new training, every year the o line gets killed. Teams have figured out the Defense, so drop Dick and go with something different. The team has no heart and only plays in 1 or 2 quarters. Finally we have some talent, but it looks like most teams have more talent.

  • Bell Cow

It’s not worth the gamble. Ben’s favorite tackle was Max Starks and he was drafted in the 3rd round. The reality is that you could put a brick wall to protect Roethlisberger and he would still find a way to get sacked because he holds the ball 1-2 seconds longer than other QBs.

  • Tom Savastano

Horrible loss but I can live with it as long as some major changes are on the way.. That should include players starting jobs now and coaches at the end of the season..

  • Kris Gusto Williams

If we fire all the coaches and the GM,who I’ll you bring in that’ll fix it???

  • Whitesauce

The point is that these guys were not “Cowher’s players.” The process for selecting players is the same regardless of who the coach is. Calling them “Cowher’s players” is just a method of diminishing Tomlin’s accomplishments. If simply inheriting players was a key to success, then there would be many more successful coaches. This talent issue didn’t happen overnight. After all, the Steelers went to two Super Bowls with bad offensive lines. Cowher had his lean years and we’d be silly to think Tomlin won’t. Pushing him out would not be a good idea.

  • dkoy85

I still don’t get why Jones returns kickoffs over Sanders yet Brown returns punts! It’s one of the things that eats at me! Just eats!

  • Deuce22

Ok, So there’s plenty of Haley bashers out there, but this one really lies on our defense. Our offense was scoring points. When you put up 31 points in a game, you should win the game. I mean, I remember back in the days where if our offense put up 17-21 points in a game, we knew we would more than likely come out with a win because our defense could stop everything. Now…. we can’t stop anything. 27 points against the vikes, 23 against the bears, normally, those are wins. I’m sorry, but I think that Lebeau’s defensive scheme just isn’t working anymore whether it is not having the right personnel or its just outdated…it’s time for him to retire and try something new.

  • Chris

I think we, as Steelers fans, have gotten used to the winning since the early 2000s…but does anyone remember the Bubby Brister years…how bout Mark Malone? It’s not pretty but it could be far worse…

  • Marc Zimmer

Was just having a Noll versus Cowher argument yesterday. So dumb. The two absolutely cannot be compared and neither can Noll and Tomlin. Noll had the benefit of keeping a great team intact for 10 years due to no free agency. He coached throughout the 80s too but somehow that doesn’t sully anyone’s opinion of him at all… and it shouldn’t. Furthermore, to have a team put up 49 on you in Noll’s era when there was a much greater emphasis on the running game and cornerbacks could molest WRs all over the field is, IMO, much less conceivable than team putting up 55 pts today. Rizzo, you’re out to lunch.

  • Fritz Baughman

I have hope for the LB’s, because they are all relatively young. Jones/Williams will be good players, and hopefully Spence can get into that mix. However, the rest of the defense needs gutted. The defensive line is horrible, and they desperately need some 3-4 power up front. The Steelers really need to get a solid FA this off season on on defense – and they have no choice. They need to stop being stubborn and actually go out and GET someone. Not only that, but they need an A+ draft this upcoming spring. If they flunk out in yet another draft, this team is done for at least 3 years – and maybe much longer. Ben will likely be retired by then, and then we are back at 1984 all over again.

  • Marc Zimmer

You try and motivate a bunch of millionaires who have been force-fed how great they are since the age of 12.

  • Fritz Baughman

Colbert did just fine when Cowher was here.

  • r4kolb

Didn’t seem to be a problem for Cowher. Don’t get me wrong they are hard to come by.

  • rizzo29

Knoll team that gave up The 49pts i believe was !969 before the great drafts they won 1 game that year.I was responding too a comment ryanw made,Tomlin the coach now his team gave up 55,Noll Cowher are in the past has nothing to do what,s going on with this team

  • Ahmad

I felt that if we employed the same game plan as we did back when we beat them in 2011, we had a real shot. Unfortunately we didn’t. Regardless we did managed to get the game tied at 24 half way through the 3rd quarter but after that I have no idea what the hell happened. The defense just got gashed all day long on the ground and through the air. Also did anyone else notice that as soon as Ben started to go no huddle we started to score points? I don’t think it’s a coincidence. Maybe we should start games in the no huddle so we can get an early lead because the offense wakes up way too late into games.

  • Chris Ranieri

I will add to the list of future good NFL receivers (possibly) coming out next year…
    Odell Beckham Jr. (LSU)
    Marqise Lee (USC)
    Let’s get a playmaker…

  • DAYSNWAYS

Yup, time to decorate the cellar and make it comfy because we are headed there for quite some time.

At least then we can reflect and rebuild.

We need quality drafts and better luck to turn this around, but like you say, Bens successor needs to be considered.

  • Ray Evanoff

    [irrational purge]

The problem isn’t this season (as bad as it has been), but: how long will this last? How are the Steelers, as an organization, going to right the ship for future seasons? Are they willing to make the philosophical changes necessary to do so?

I love, love, love Dick Lebeau, but his defensive scheme is antiquated, or approaching being so. Quarterbacks aren’t scared of or confused by it anymore. I loved the idea of running the ball more, running better, and instituting a short passing game, but if you look at the offenses succeeding in the NFL right now, they’re doing so because of scheme creativity and downfield passing. The Steelers certainly don’t have the former, and Haley needs to better integrate the latter. Downfield passing shouldn’t be reserved for shot plays or playing catchup.

Mike Tomlin needs to talk as though he’s aware of reality in his pressers for the remainder of the season. We heard “This isn’t good enough, we expect better” five weeks ago. For F’s sake, Tomlin, your team is tanking, it’s not producing across the board, and not a single phase of Steelers football has been consistent this season. Let’s acknowledge that reality, shall we?

    [/irrational purge]

I’m not sure if I feel better or worse now…

  • srdan

    Great points.

No matter what these people want, the only way anyone is leaving this coaching staff is by their own choice. 31 points is not a bad number wtih our O line. You can’t push Lebau out. Tomlin gets the steelers free ride for 3-4 seasons for the sake of continuity.

  • TheBlitz

I’m sorry guys but comments such as fire Tomlin, Haley, Lebeau, Colbert and cut Troy, Ben etc… are just ridiculous. Blowing up the entire thing with a dynamite isn’t the solution. “obviously” a lot of people will not be here next year but it doesn’t make sense to let everyone go

  • http://www.nyob.com/ Dr. Doom

Why would you not do that? because 9/10 times you will not have success for 2-4 years.

  • http://www.nyob.com/ Dr. Doom

Sure he did do your home work cowher missed on a lot of draft picks four words:

    Alonzo Jackson
    Jermain Stephens

    I am thinking #11-#13

  • http://www.nyob.com/ Dr. Doom

If I could give you two up votes I would

  • RyanW

Never said it had anything to do with this team. Only said that if they werent fired after their numerous losing seasons that Tomlin wont and shouldnt be either. You made it about the points scored thus forcing the comparison.

  • Alan Felicia

And Cowher won early on (1992-1995) with leftovers from Noll’s team. Woodson, Lloyd, Lake, D. Dawson, etc.
Plus he had Dom Capers (DC), Marvin Lewis (LB coach), Dick LeBeau (Secondary) in his coaching staff.
Yet, Cowher was dreadful in the AFC Championship game (1-4) before he got a Franchise QB.

  • RyanW

Cowhers teams didnt overachieve 98-2000 or 2003 or 2006. Yeah made it to the SB with ODonnell but lost It because of ODonnell to. Point being it took him 15 years to win a superbowl and even that wasnt without controversy. 1 losing season doesnt make Tomlin a bad coach hes been to 2 superbowls and won 1 without controversy. At this point we will truly see what kind of coach Tomlin is after the season cause this is when its time to make more changes to get this team straight.

  • r4kolb

So we should just throw out the 8 – 8 season last year? Let’s not forget losing to the Raiders, Chiefs, and Browns the year before that to keep us from making the playoffs. You know the year Tomlin told us they were going to “Unleash hell”. As far as ODonnell losing the Superbowl for us I’d disagree. His read was a hot route for Andre Hastings to run to the outside. Hastings ran the wrong route. ODonnell put it where it needed to be. I, and a lot of Steeler fans have seen enough of Tomlin to know he does nothing but blow hot air. He talks a big game but his coaching skills are weak. Why do you think during the interview w James Harrison the only thing he could say about Tomlin was he was as young as us. He cried for Lebeau and spoke of how much he loved and respected him. Know the facts. If you still disagree that’s OK too. I think you are in the minority with your opinion on that though.

  • StrengthOfVictory

    The Obvious:

The defense actually embarrassed me as a fan. I love the Steelers, but I was embarrassed by and for them. Yeah, you expect Brady to be Brady at times. But WIDE open receivers? Coverage completely blown?? The most porous run defense I have EVER seen?? What the hell WAS that?? They were playing f**king TAG out there! The Jags look better at stopping the run!!

    The Seething Frustration:

This “playing to the level of competition” bull HAS to stop from the offense. Can’t break 20 points in a game ever…well, I mean unless they’re down two scores. THEN they’ll hurry up and actually move the ball down the field, complete passes, and get in the end zone. Otherwise, the good ol’ Steelers will keep it REAL close, settle for field goals, and stall every promising drive. Besides, the defense will probably bail them out again, right?

    RIGHT?!?

  • StrengthOfVictory

And as much as I respect Tomlin, I am TIRED of the same rehearsed speech after games.

“Obviously, a disappointing effort on our part. We weren’t good enough today to win; they were. We didn’t make the significant plays; they did. We accept it. We don’t like it, but we accept it, and we’ll move on. We’ll evaluate, and go from there.”

WHERE were the mistakes, and WHO needs to get better. And what SPECIFICALLY are YOU going to do about it???

  • RyanW

I know the facts and the facts and have stated them before. I didnt say ignore the 8-8 season but again ill point Cowhers 98-2000 run considering all the facts as you say you couldve easily said all Cowher did was blow hot air as well again it took him 15 years to win a sb he was basically our Marty Schottenheimer or Andy Reid before that. He could get you a decent playoff run and then nothing else and as I said before his super bowl win wasnt without controversy though personally I still think we win that game without it.. You notice how noone else but so called Steelers fans are saying Tomlins a bad coach? I have yet to see one person with credibility question his ability as a coach. Is he perfect? No does he make mistakes? Yes but 1 8-8 season and 1 loosing season doesnt make him a bad coach. 1 super bowl ring 2 afc championships and 3 division championships in 7 years says otherwise.

  • r4kolb

Like I said we can agree to disagree.

  • Fritz Baughman

Yea, every coach in NFL history has missed draft picks – so thanks for stating the obvious. My overall point was, that our drafts have suffered greatly ever since Tomlin became HC. Cowher and Colbert built a championship roster. Tomlin and Colbert have not. Anyway, perhaps you should do YOUR homework, sport.

  • Dan

My “It ain’t all bad” thoughts:
1.) We did injure a lot of Patriots and got some good hard shots in on Brady…I’m sure there’s a lot of guys hurting today (as they enjoy film of their win)
2.) A lot of our players appeared to play really hard for well over 40 minutes.
3.) Foster appears to have a huge belly….he must have quite a good woman at home.
4.) Tomlin appeared to be quite upset and determined after the game…I’m sure he will motivate the team a little extra this week.
5.) We’re still on pace for the worse record since 1969, which will give us a Top 5 draft pick, next year. I’m sure another Joe Green or Terry Bradshaw is on his way.
6.) With each new injury on the O-line, we’re one step closer to finding that “diamond-in-the-rough” on our practice squad.
7.) The season is half way done and Ben is still healthy!!
8.) Imagine how fast Marcus Wheaton will be with such fresh legs after his finger heals. He will be a blur. We will be unstoppable!
9.) With Baltimore’s loss yesterday, we are only one game out for 3rd place in the AFC North.
10.) At least Incognito isn’t in our locker room.

  • Bell Cow

Yes I know that Tampa 2 is a coverage. The 43 defense with the Tampa 2. They need to restart and rethink what theyre doing on both sides of the ball. Once upon a time the Steelers ran the 43 and converted once those great D Linemen retired and went to a 34. Now, we have D Linemen who look out of place in the 34 and linebackers who can’t rush the passer. Time to change at some point and stop being so terrified and make excuses as to why we can’t.

  • disqus_5IWNhVT8DI

Couldn’t agree more. This is the worst steelers team I have seen. The game is won at the line of scrimmage and the Steelers are bad on both the Defensive Line and Offensive Line.

  • disqus_5IWNhVT8DI

I dont think the Steelers have enough draft picks to fix this mess. However I would start with a Left Tackle Then I would get a big Nose Tackle like Hampton when he was young. That will fix the inability to stop the run.

  • CW

Always was going to be a nightmare matchup. However Cortez Allen against Gronk works very well.

  • dajon

Miss management of cap money into older player screwed their chances in going after top draft picks and FA pick ups. Blame Colbert and Khan for not signing ray Horton when Dick L was thinking about walking away. Blame Colbert and Khan for not having replacements for Farrior, Harrision, and Ward ( Leadership players)

  • Johnny Loose

as long as they follow it up with the 1970’s, I’ll wait.

  • http://www.nyob.com/ Dr. Doom

Yeah he has been down right terrible All that wr fire power courtesy of Mike Tomlin. Thanks SPORT!! Everyone is at fault for their current status team should have been blown up in 2011 they thought they were building a dynasty and they were wrong it is not just him. And if Cowher was so super wonderful why just 1 super bowl win in 16 years? How many title game loses does he have to his name? Banished Kordell to WR only to help get him a new 5 year deal. 1 Championship not Championships he won once period

  • http://www.nyob.com/ Dr. Doom

Haley started packing during the bye

  • Aric Brown

Terry Bradshaw is not a thing this team needs… he is a poor mans Ben Roethlisberger

  • Aric Brown

I’m in no way saying hes a good coach.. but every year in the players survey Tomlin wins coach that they would most like to play for…. I just think its unlikely that people would quit playing for a coach that they genuinely like

  • http://www.nyob.com/ Dr. Doom

What head coach tells the truth in a press conference name one? Cowher had one liners too they were just rude

  • Rednecksrule

    Yeah… good point!!!

  • Riverstko

Bad Drafts: Wasting top picks on lineman instead of skilled players. We dont have skill like the rest of the nfl. I have been waiting for our downfall cause after every draft lately im like huh? WE NEED MORE SKILL PLAYERS!There are a lot of big guys that can block. Dont waste a high draft pick on ol. We need tall wr, tall cb, hybrid te, fast safety. Everyone stop crying about the oline, Haleys blocking schemes are too complicated with all those screens. Lets just run a regular pro style offense.

  • george

Are you kidding me. They will talk tough and fire an assistant coach and maybe some equipment guy. If they really feel tough they may let one of the parking lot attendants go. Tomlin talks a god game but its same old same old when it comes to doing anything! The safest job in America is a congressman and steeler coach!

  • george

    Pass me what you’re smoking

  • steeltown

Didn’t say anything about firing Tomlin… and I don’t think they will, but some other coaches and players wont be so lucky

  • Shea Fahr

    Agreed.

  • charles

Mr. LeBeau and Bruce Ariens need to have something in common. Mr LeBeau’s idea of dline engaging blockers to let lbs make plays worked when Aaron Smith was bullrushing guards right into the backfield. Now it is just automatically taking three of our defense right out of the action for the opposing offense.

Mr. Goodell and his psuedo hit NFL have taken Tomlin’s AND the Steelers best asset away. No more intimidating hits.etc .

Why waste another early round pick on a linemen? People never seem to understand that offensive line (especially OT) is a position that is extremely hard for a rookie to adapt to. There were 5 tackles selected in the 1st round in 2013, including 3 in the top 4 picks. Those picks haven’t paid any dividends yet for those teams. According to Pro Football Focus, No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher is rated 71st out of 73 tackles. 2nd overall pick Luke Joeckel (out for season) was rated 67th and 11th overall pick DJ Fluker is rated 31st. The only tackle who would even be considered better than the Steelers current tackles is Fluker.

So please, NO LINEMEN IN ROUND 1!

At this point I’ll be satisfied if they just beat Cleveland twice, Baltimore and Cinci!

WR firepower? Lol, where? Mike Wallace was and still is a one-trick poney. Sanders is average. Brown is very good but still ahs his issues. Limas Sweed is sitting at home. Again, explain the “firepower” to me?

Also, I never called Cowher “great.” I simply implied that he drafts better. Maybe you should read this – a comment taken directly from Tomlin’s mouth just a few days ago. You can read it on the Post-Gazette:

    ===========================================
“Tomlin was asked how involved he is in the draft process and how much accountability he has for those picks.

“I take responsibility for the players we have drafted since I’ve been here,” Tomlin answered. “Not only in recent drafts, but since I’ve been here. Because it’s the truth.”

Pressed on whether he has equal say as general manager Kevin Colbert, Tomlin answered, “I take responsibility for the players that we’ve drafted since I’ve been here.”

Sounds like an admittance of guilt, correct? Maybe he’s the problem when it comes to evaluating talent, correct?
