Report: Steelers G Ramon Foster Out Of Walking Boot On Wednesday

During his Tuesday press conference, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin sounded hopeful that guard Ramon Foster would be able to play this coming Sunday against the Detroit Lions after suffering a right ankle injury in the win over the Buffalo Bills. On Wednesday, Bob Labriola tweeted out some positive news as it relates to Foster’s early-week status.

According to Labriola, Foster is now out of his walking boot and is walking without a limp. He still, however, is expected to be limited this week in practice and there’s a chance he won’t practice at all on Wednesday.

Should Foster wind up not being able to play Sunday against the Lions, Guy Whimper would likely start in his place. Whimper, however, has not played well at left guard this season when filling in for Foster.

Foster is expected to talk to the media Wednesday and we will pass along what he has to say about his status later in the day.

Well this is good news. I initially thought that Foster could be out extended period of time. Once I saw how he couldn’t put any weight on his ankle, I though the could be out for a while. Him being out of his boot so early has to be a good sign.

Whimper is definitely a RG and RT guy, not much experience on the Left side

steeltown, you are giving too much credit…I can say he is human with confidence and outside of that it gets a little bit grey…lol

wondering if there is another serviceable O-lineman FA like a velasco available right now . Whimper is not a very good option. and there is still a sliver of hope

With all the line shifting, because injuries and poor play, the Steelers still haven’t tried Gilbert on the left side, even though that’s where he started out in preseason. Whimper has proved he can at least manage the RT position, so it’d be nice to see Gilbert given a game day opportunity on the left and switch Beachum to LG. Of course, the Steelers would say that moving 3 positions due to 1 injury is too much, but when you’re on pace to give up 64 sacks in a season does it really matter.

  • steeltown

    Agree with that OLine

  • steeltown

He played well at RT a few weeks ago..and then again at RG a couple weeks ago, just saying he’s a Right side guy

  • Brandon James

You cannot do that, its well known when you have a position problem you do not switch 2 positions on the online to fix one, they just need to get more reps at LG for whimper. Gilbert has been playing alright on the right side, no need to mess that up.

  • steeltown

Its not about Gilbert, its about Beachum giving up 6sacks this season in limited time

They said the same thing about DeCastro a few weeks ago and he still was inactive for the game. I wouldn’t hold my breath on Foster playing this week.
Side note: Does anyone else think Suh coming to town might be what this oline needs? His nasty dirty play just might infuse the smelling salt into this line and wake up the mean streak that these guys have lacked. It’s either that or they take the Brady approach and stand back and watch in awe, then praise the heck out of him after the game. Hopefully, it’s not the latter.

  • Shannon Stephenson

I was just messing with you mostly. Whimper has been adequate AS A BACK UP!
