Report: Steelers NT Steve McLendon May Have Suffered A Broken Ankle Against Browns

According to Scott Brown of Pittsburgh Steelers nose tackle Steve McLendon may have suffered a broken left ankle in the win Sunday over the Cleveland Browns. If indeed that is the case, McLendon would be out for the remainder of the season.

Losing McLendon would result in Al Woods taking over as the starter at nose tackle. He would be backed up by Hebron Fangupo, who due to McLendon’s injury on Sunday, saw his first playing time of the year on defense.

The Steelers also were without defensive end Brett Keisel on Sunday as he missed a second consecutive game with a foot injury.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin will update McLendon’s status on Monday during his noon eastern press conference.

McLendon signed a three-year, $7.25 million contract during the offseason.

UPDATE: Jason La Canfora reports Sunday night that McLendon is expected to miss a few weeks, but overall the prognosis is positive and not as bas as first feared.

This is horrible news Big Mac was coming on big time.

  • Madi

Well, that would suck. I like Woods, but this sucks.

  • Eric

Bad news but the Silver lining is more snaps for AW who looked damn good today.

  • Lamarr56

Not good. If his ankle is broken, I wonder if Lebeau would have Ziggy play a nose/end hybrid position to keep hi no n the field. He has played well while filling in for Kiesel, and he has the strength to play in the interior trenches.

That’s what I’m hoping, when Keisels back!

  • NW86

With McClendon out and Woods starting at NT, let’s hope Keisel can come back on Thursday. The D-Line is getting a little thin. Either way though, with C. Brown likely headed to IR, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Arnfelt called up to take his spot.

  • SG

    Shit, that sucks.

  • Virdin Barzey

Woods is more than capable. I’m more concerned about the guy behind Woods.

Lets go hunting and stuff that Ratbird on Turkey day.

  • Douglas Andrews

Hope it’s only a sprain McClendon was doing great as a starter. I do like Al Woods at NT hope we can find a way to keep him after this season.

  • Rick M

Getting it right is more important than getting it first, Mr. Brown. That’s Journalism 101.

  • Nolrog

I like the way you think. This will give us a chance to see Woods at nose and see if he’s a possible solution or if we still have a need.

This is not all so terrible, the Defense will miss McLendons quickness… but alteast now we’ll see if we have anything in Woods and Fangupo

  • Ahmad

Well you can count him out until the Bengals game at the earliest
