Report: Steelers Working Out Former Pitt RB Ray Graham On Tuesday

According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette, the Pittsburgh Steelers are working out free agent running back Ray Graham on Tuesday.

Graham, who played his college ball at the University of Pittsburgh, was waived Friday by the Houston Texans, who originally signed him back in May as an undrafted free agent.

Graham was a two-time first-team All-Big East selection in college and is second all-time at Pittsburgh in career rushing yards (3,271) and all-purpose yards (4,943).

My concern with him was he seemed injury prone but his production made him look like a viable prospect…will look forward to seeing what happens with him.

why do we need another RB to take up a spot.. dont we have enuough? seems we work out a big receiver?

  • steeltown

Oh hell yea, let Alvestor Alexander go and sign Graham to the PS

  • steeltown

Its more about accumulating talent, especially heading into the offseason with the future of LSH, Dwyer and Felix Jones unknown. We have Alexander and Winn on the practice squad, if he’s healthy I’d rather have Graham over Alexander

    Maybe he can play LT?

  • Eric

George Winn shows up on our practice roster with Alvester. Maybe one of them will move up to the active list team and Graham goes to the PS.
We have not seen much of Felix Jones lately, so they could be looking at Graham as a Jones replacement.
We have not seen many rushing yards also so why not try something new. The blocking is not going to change so maybe change a RB

His draft stock was pretty high until he ran a very slow 40, like in the 4.9 range. I really liked what I saw from him at Pitt though.

  • Lucus Rodriguez

Beachum played above the line this week. Give him a break haha

  • CW

It is getting around that time of year when futures contracts get signed so glad that this former Pitt Panthers running back is getting a look. Could be a good addition to the backfield seeing as he knows Heinz Field better than any other normal free agent the Steelers could get and could serve well as a scat back on 3rd downs.

  • James Kling

Yeah, but he was coming back from injury. Might be nice to stash him until next year…

  • CW

It’s a concern, but seeing as LSH could be done with that ACL tear and Dwyer, LSH, and Jones all are free agents, the Steelers need to build next year’s running back stable, can’t hurt to look and see what Graham can do for us.

  • NW86

Or if we keep Alexander and sign Graham, then we will have RB’s Alexander, Graham, Bell on our team. (see what I did there?)

must be somethign wrong with him since Houston released him cause aint like Houston running situation is good since Foster is out for season and Tate is dinged up… why would they release… but hey imma just sit here and shut up. LOL

All kinds of respect to you, man.

  • HopalongCassidy

Try working out some ex-college basketball power forwards as receivers. You might find another Gronk or Antonio Gates. Get the scouts on that project. It won’t even cost a draft pick. Be creative !

  • SG

That has a nice ring to it!

  • SteelersDepot

Futures contracts are not signed until after the season.

  • dkoy85

I like the idea, but it’s tough to do. Take a look at Austin Seferian-Jenkins. It’d be nice to have a pass catching TE.

  • Josh Knepshield

Way too many off the field issues. I doubt the Steelers take another risk on a player like that again.

  • CW

I understand that but my understanding is most teams start bringing in potential free agent pick ups around Thanksgiving on.

However if they feel there’s a open spot on the current roster I would be all for signing him if he’s got anything useful for the team.

  • Steve

We DONT need another RB, get us some Offensive lineman that can block.

  • sean mcmartin

    Good One..

  • sean mcmartin

maybe next year we can draft a RB in the fourth round and have him not dress all season.

  • Shannon Stephenson

I agree 100%. I had Graham in a few of my mocks last year and think he has good potential. If he can stay healthy I believe he will make a strong push for the roster next year.

  • RedCarpetDefense

Yeah he and Landry can throw passes to each other behind the bench…..geez
