Steelers Decide Not To Promote G Chris Hubbard From Practice Squad

The official NFL league transactions are now in for Saturday and the Pittsburgh Steelers have chosen not to promote guard Chris Hubbard from the practice squad.

With David DeCastro ruled out on the Friday injury report with an ankle injury, this means the Steelers will only dress seven offensive linemen on Sunday for the game against the New England Patriots after dressing eight the previous two weeks.

There was no guarantee that Hubbard would be promoted from the practice squad, but being as both Ramon Foster and Guy Whimper were injured last week and unable to finish the game, you have to wonder if the decision crossed the mind of head coach Mike Tomlin.

Not promoting Hubbard also means that Foster has been given full clearance to play after suffering a concussion last week. Whimper, who suffered a left hyper-extended knee last week, is expected to start at right guard with DeCastro out.

Is it Adams and Wallace as back ups?

  • dgh57

We are in trouble if things go like last week which also shows me we didn’t learn anything from last week!

  • dgh57

    Unfortunately yes!

  • gene mann

This is going to be a hugh Mistake

  • gene mann

NO tomllin does not learn from past mistakes

  • dgh57

Yes, now that you mention it!

  • Dale

I’d call Valasko a backup, too.

  • sean mcmartin

This is the Tomlin Footprint to his obvious coaching skills

  • sean mcmartin

I think you hit it on the head..Just sign other teams back-ups they are at least stop gaps until they get some real talent.

Tomlin always seems to make the wrong decisions. I suspect when this gig is over (hopefully soon) , he will have seen his last head coaching job in the NFL.

  • Shannon Stephenson

I think this is unsafe but I assume the Steelers have a better feel then we do. Lets hope so.

    Steelers 23-17 0ver the Pats……

  • dgh57

Not that I agree with it but as long as Valasko plays with us he’ll be a starter. Valasko at LG and Pouncey at Center next year or vice versa.

  • HopalongCassidy

Sad to say, 27-16 Pats is my guess. I wish I could be more optimistic but as Bill parcels once said….”you are what your record says you are”.

  • Tom

Given the constant injury problems on the offensive line, this seems like a really bad decision.

On a side note…’s kind of ironic that after 3 injury plagued years in Pittsburgh…..that Willie Colon has managed to stay healthy and play pretty well for the Jets.
