Steelers Injury Report: David DeCastro And Markus Wheaton Both Practice Fully

The Pittsburgh Steelers have now released their first injury report of the week as the prepare to host the Buffalo Bills this coming Sunday and only two players were listed on it as not practicing Wednesday.

Cornerback Ike Taylor (concussion) and linebacker Vince Williams (concussion) were both sidelined Wednesday as they continue to undergo testing for the concussions they suffered Sunday in the loss to the New England Patriots.

Guard David DeCastro (ankle) and wide receiver Markus Wheaton (finger) both participated fully on Wednesday and baring any kind of setbacks, it appears as though both will play against the Bills.

Tackle Kelvin Beachum (knee), tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle), center Fernando Velasco (thigh) and tight end Heath Miller (coach’s decision) were all limited on Wednesday. Gilbert was unable to return to the game Sunday after suffering his ankle injury, so he might very well be considered the iffiest of the bunch as of right now.

Defensive end Cameron Heyward (knee) also practiced fully on Wednesday.

It’ll be nice to see Wheaton back out there..hoping he has some success moving forward. We need more bright spots on an otherwise cloudy season

  • Great news on both fronts now they can stop sending Moye out there.

How about a stud OT in next year’s draft? Ya know, since next year’s draft is kind of the most exciting thing to think about this team nowadays.

  • I am hoping for one, a good left tackle changes an entire offense.

  • Jeff

Agreed. Especially when you have a top teir QB.

  • Jeff

Think the steelers will break their normal trend and get a little testy in free agency??? They’ve certainly broken their normal trend of being a contending football team…

  • I think they should maybe not break the bank but go for more second tier free agents.

  • Douglas Andrews

Kinda troubling if V Williams can’t go but anxious to see more of Wheaton

I am not sure if Wheaton get to many balls seems JC has stepped up their for #3 but i like to see what he brings also.

I know it don’t matter to anyone but tonight Ball State plays Central Michigan. I live in Muncie, IN home of the Ball State Cardinals MACC conference same as Ben. Ball State has a 2 receivers flying under the radar. One last name Williams big body and good hand solid. Also a under rated QB and RB. I think they all rank somewhere in FBS leaderboard. All 4 I think will be in league. Like these guys

They would, but they still have cap problems. So they’d have to restructure and/or extend Ben, Timmons and Woodley or let Troy go to free up money, and even then it won’t be enough. They may have to bite the bullet and take the cap hits and then start rebuilding the following year.

Ike Has a concussion. Maybe that played a part in the return of DVD.

Why do people assume that a rookie tackle will change anything? There were 5 tackles selected in the 1st round in 2013, including 3 in the top 4 picks
Those picks haven’t paid any dividends yet for those teams. According to Pro Football Focus, No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher is rated 71st out of 73 tackles. 2nd overall pick Luke Joeckel (out for season) was rated 67th and 11th overall pick DJ Fluker is rated 31st. The only tackle who would even be considered better than the Steelers current tackles is Fluker.

The Steelers won Super Bowls with linemen like Starks, Colon, and Foster who were drafted in mid rounds. They’ve also had success with cast away free agents like Flozell Adams and Justin Hartwig.

They need playmakers on both sides of the ball who can make in an impact from day 1. Not the offensive tackle from Bama, Michigan, A&M etc. who will take 2-4 years to develop into a suitable starter. Ben doesn’t have that kind of time left in his career to wait around, so they need to utilize free agency and do so by cutting dead money and releasing over paid veterans.

Why draft an O/L? They would just screw it up like they have the previous picks. Trade back and try and get multiple 2nd round picks if possible. As it stands right now, the Steelers will be picking high, no need to screw it up – Kevin Colbert/Mike Tomlin. Those two together on Draft Day = Idiots!!! The Steelers need a stud NT, they need to stop trying to find wholesale guys in the 4th/5th rounds of the draft. Get back to Steeler Football, get back to their roots, draft solid players. Most importantly, closed the doors on Tomlin/Colbert, lock the door and throw away the key for three days next May. Maybe they will then get it right.

I agree for the most part, but like DeCastro, there might be a guy they cant pass on, otherwise yes its never a guarantee that the guy will come in and solve the problem.

But, when you really look at the TOP LT’s in the game today, from Duane Brown to Joe Thomas to Okung to Whitworth, I think only Whitworth was selected in the 2nd Rd.. most if not all the top guys were first Rd selections

No matter how you slice it we are in desperate need of talent at OT, TE and DB

  • Bob Graff

You are correct , will we make another mistake like Decastro, Hood, Adams, Gilbert. or do a free agent signing like Levi Brown. Our current leaders are incompetent. And the fans are too over – loyal to see it clearly. Heaven forbid if i let everyone know Jarvis Jones hasn’t done squat this year. or that L. Bell has only 277 yards on 3.5 per rush or that Wheaton has 3 catches for less than 9 yards a grab. But some fans can’t help themselves and want to call this a good draft truth is none of the rookies have shown anything yet.
