To say Pittsburgh Steelers fourth-year outside linebacker Jason Worilds is on fire right now is understatement, but whatever you want to call it, it couldn’t come at a better time.
Worilds, who started again on the left side for the injured LaMarr Woodley, had a game-high 6 quarterback hurries and five tackles Sunday in the 27-11 win over the Cleveland Browns. One of his early hits on Browns quarterback Jason Campbell temporarily sidelined the starter with a right arm injury.
Worilds, who had a sack, four quarterback hits, one hurry and seven total tackles last week in the win over the Detroit Lions, has certainly lifted his free agent stock this season.
The Virginia Tech product will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and with more and more teams moving to a 3-4 defense, he figures to be a hot free agent commodity if he continues on his current pace.
Worilds is now looking like the dominant outside linebacker that the Steelers hoped he would become when they drafted him in the second-round of the 2010 NFL Draft and he’s doing it on the left side, the same side where he had most of his success as a college defensive end.
