Steelers Place CB Curtis Brown On IR; Sign CB Isaiah Green

The Pittsburgh Steelers made an expected roster move Tuesday morning as cornerback Curtis Brown was placed on injured and cornerback Isaiah Green was promoted from the practice squad to fill his spot on the 53 man roster.

Brown tore the ACL in his left knee while covering a punt Sunday in the win over the Cleveland Browns. He will now undergo surgery over the course of the next week or two more than likely.

Green is no stranger to the 53 man roster as he has bounced back and forth from the practice squad all season. This time he might stick more than a week with Brown now out for the season.

The Steelers also brought back cornerback Devin Smith once again as well. Smith was signed on Tuesday to fill the open spot on the practice squad.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

Nice move. I.Green is not known for his special teams play but I trust him out there on Defense more than I would C.Brown…. which REALLY does not say much for C.Brown…

    Green ran a 4.29 40-yd in college

Our IR list has now reached double digits

Who will get a defensive snap first, Green or DVD?

  • steeltown

At this point I’d say Green, purely because he has been on roster the entire year, while Van Dyke was just recently brought back. It’s interesting though, the coaching staff has went with Antwon Blake in place of Ike Taylor once or twice this season and this before C.Brown was injured, so they obviously have a bit of confidence in Blake maybe he’s the first off the bench at this point

I’m on record as saying I’m a huge fan of Isaiah Green. He is the fastest CB on our roster. He’s also very quick when changing directions.

This allows him to recover when he’s beat deep. And also helps him close on the ball when the play is in front of him. Rarely do you see him beat by more than a yard on any deep ball. And he attacks the ball well for his height.

I honestly believe he just needs the reps to iron out his weaknesses. Just like Keenan Lewis. That’s the problem I’ve always had with Willie Gay. I promise I don’t hate the kid but since the day he got here the coaches have given him rep after rep after rep even though he got beat time after time after time.

Why didn’t they give Keenan Lewis that same leniency? Why don’t they give Green the same reps and let him develop even when he messes up?

You might as well say IR=walking papers. I wish the young man the best but in all honesty he was already in a tight spot to make the roster next year and with him trying to recover from a knee almost ensures he will be out of a job.

smith and green must be jointed at hip or some thing were one goes other follows …..would nfl allow them to play as one they could be the steelers 2 headed munster …..on another thought i was watching replays of troy playing like a lber ….maybe he should be converted to a lber next season inmage troy doing what he did … but now as a lber he could take over play calls and be a force closer to line where he could use his skills to stop run cover TEs blitz …..now that be a monster lose …..

I agree but he is a special teams stud. The should keep him for cheap money on a 1 yr deal.

  • NW86

I’m not really sure how that works when a player is injured? Can he be released in March when he hasn’t healed? Or would he have some sort of injury grievance for that?

  • steeltown

He’s under contract through 2014 already, but will he even make the 53 man roster is the question

  • steeltown

Im not exactly sure either, might be some sort of injury settlement. I personally think he’ll be in camp and preseason next year, but im just not sure he’ll make the 53man this time around. We have plenty of special teamers now and Shamarko, Antwon Blake or even Van Dyke can be gunners

  • Eric

At my High School we ran a defense called the 5-2 monster, where the monster was a mobile LB/SS. That is pretty much what you are describing if you count our OLB’s as part of the 5

  • Shannon Stephenson

The steeltown comment above gives my answer. We have too many just only ST guys and I think someone will go. I am not a crystal ball person but that is what I see.

  • Shannon Stephenson

    not sure either
