The 59 yards receiving registered Thursday night by Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown against the Baltimore Ravens was his third lowest output of the season, but the Central Michigan product still remains on track to break the franchise receiving records held by Hines Ward and Yancey Thigpen.
According to ESPN Stats Inc., that now makes 12 straight games with at least five receptions and fifty receiving yards receiving for Brown. The last player with a streak that long in a single season was Laveranues Coles in 2002 (13 games).
Brown now has 85 catches and 1,103 yards receiving through 12 games and that puts him on pace for a 113 catch, 1,471 yard season. Those numbers would break Ward’s 112 catch season in 2002 and Thigpen’s 1,398 yard season in 1997.
Brown’s run at the Steelers franchise receiving records will almost certainly come down to a final game battle against Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden, who is currently one of the best in the game. Brown got the best of Haden back in Week 12 with a six catch, 92 yard, one touchdown game. He might need numbers close to that in the season finale.
