Bengals CB Dre Kirkpatrick Fined $7,875 For Grabbing Facemask Of Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell

According to several reports on Twitter, Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick has been fined $7,875 for grabbing the facemask of Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell Sunday night on the first play from scrimmage. Kirkpatrick was flagged 15 yards on the play.

Kirkpatrick is the second player to be fined for actions in that game as Steelers rookie linebacker Terence Garvin was fined $25,000 by the league earlier in the week for his hit to the head and neck area on Bengals punter Kevin Huber. Garvin, however, will likely have his fine reduced to around $6,000 once he appeals that the amount exceeds 25% of his weekly pay as stated in the CBA.

As for Huber, he underwent surgery on Friday to repair a broken jaw suffered as a result of the hit by Garvin. He was placed on injured reserve earlier in the week, but expected to make a full recovery.

Is the NFL hard-up and Goodell trying to take back as much player money as he can get his fingers on ? This whole fine thing is getting ridiculous. Call the penalty and let it go.

Some of these plays I don’t know why they are fined. Kirkpatrick defenetly did facemask him, but he did get flagged. It wasn’t so excessive that it needs an additional fine. He doesn’t need to be punished furthermore, in my opinion.

I agree that the fining can be ridiculous, but it’s nothing more than PR for the league. Player gets a slap on the wrist with a tax deductible fine, league maintains the idea that they’re concerned with player safety.

Andrew Whitworth has a fine coming for his false start, per Ian Rappaport.

Ridiculous. The NFL must be looking for easy ways to pay back the multi-billion dollar lawsuit the old players got from them. Goodell is an absolute joke.

This is no different than parking tickets in big cities. Just another way of taxing the people.

What a terrible fine… looked like an accidental face mask to me… the only way somebody should EVER be fined for a facemask is if it is clearly intentional

And this is what happens when you vote for the CBA with no provisions for over-site in these matters. Guess Ryan Clark led the team down the right path.

I think the money goes to charity and not to the league.

Accidental or not, he held on and turned the head completely around. But that was the 15 yd. penalty. I am not if favor of a fine for this. Stupid.
