Despite Dolphins Win Over The Patriots, Steelers Still Mathematically Alive

Yes, the Miami Dolphins win Sunday over the New England Patriots put yet another nail in the playoff chances of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but believe it or not, the Steelers are still mathematically alive heading into the Sunday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

How is that possible? For starters, the Steelers have to win out and the Dolphins have to lose out. On top of that, the Jets must finish at 8-8 with one win coming against the Dolphins in Week 17.

As for the Tennessee Titans, they would have to lose at least one of their final three games. The San Diego Chargers would also have to lose at least one of their final two games. As for the Baltimore Ravens, they need to lose at least two of their final three games and one of those loses must be the to the Bengals in Week 17.

Look at the tiebreakers here with multiple teams tied for the Wild Card. It goes back to division tiebreakers, first.

For figuring this out you deserve to make the playoffs 😀

The dolphins would be 8-8 and the steelers would be 8-8, the dolphins have beet the steelers, so would not they beat the steelers out

you should read the post again and look at the tie breakers

I think it has to do with the Jets beating the Dolphins and all three having 8-8 records. Tie breakers get odd when there are 3 teams vs 2

I for one am not into playing the “we have a mathematical chance” game anymore. Reality set in last week. Let’s just see how the young players do and look forward to a better year in 2014. Oh, I won’t complain if the Steelers go 8-8. I’d prefer it but let’s face it, 6-10 may be more likely.

Just goes to show how hard it is for even a semi competent team to miss the playoffs. Well done Steelers. /endsarcasm

All we can do is attempt to win our last three games and hope that Carolina and Detroit well beat Baltimore and NYJ

  • Elijah Stevenson

Man the jets coming back against Carolina, Miami beats the patriots, and the titans leading nothing is working out for us right now

Its over… pack up your car flags and stop making any playoff 2013 t-shirts… we will not be part of that…

At this point, I will be more than happy to just walk away with the best division record at 4-2 by beating the Bengals and Browns to end the year.

Season was over when we started 0-4.. it was cool they made it interesting though. Hope for a strong finish and come back next year with a healthy o line that is one year older/experienced/confident. Draft defense all 7 rounds. Hope for fun.
