Steelers Activate TE Matt Spaeth From Injured Reserve List

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a roster move on Saturday as tight end Matt Spaeth was activated to the 53 man roster from the injured reserve designated to return list. To make room for Spaeth, tight end Richard Gordon was waived.

Spaeth had been on the injured reserve list with the designated to return listing all season because of a Lisfranc injury suffered during training camp that ultimately required surgery.

With Spaeth back, the Steelers will likely use him to help tackle Mike Adams quite a bit on Sunday. With Kelvin Beachum sidelined with a knee sprain, Adams will be making his first start at left tackle since being benched earlier in the season.

This could be great news for Adams?! Hopefully Spaeth will be used as much as possible to help Adams out. I’m still holding out for Adams to show us beast mode!

  • dgh57

Oh my, without Richard Gordon how does our offense function without him?! LOL!!

  • dgh57

I suspect that was the reason why Spaeth was activated to help Adams with blocking since we lost our extra blocking TE to injury when Beachum went down and Adams to LT.

Its nice to see Spaeth’s name on the active roster again. Not sure how game ready he will be, it might take him a few games to get back in to form but he is welcomed addition. Next year when he and Miller are both fully healthy (one would hope) and both take part in full offseason training this Team will greatly benefit from having two solid experienced TEs

Hopefully we can add a newly acquired draft prospect to the position as well

There goes any Super Bowl hopes we had. Fire Tomlin!

Wish I could “Up Arrow” this twice.

  • Michael Pearce

Love the move since Adams is going to need all the help he can get on Sunday.

  • Shea Fahr

He can help Adams in pass protection and his run blocking could be a dominating factor against the Fins…could be a HUGE game for Bell to at least make his case for Rookie of the year.

  • dgh57

Ha, hope Tomlin & Colbert didn’t blow a circuit or two coming to the conclusion Gordon was the one needing to be released!

  • Elijah Stevenson

Little to late for him to return don’t you think

  • Steve

Bell, Rookie of the year, that’s a little wishful thinking. He has done ok but has not had a 100 yard game yet. Adams will need all the help he can get.

  • CrazyTerry

The worst part of Adams is he seems the worst at taking advantage of double team help. Even when he has double team help on the outside, he still has the “talent” to get beat on the inside.

  • CrazyTerry

I agree. Bell has had his moments. But he is nowhere close to being rookie of the year.

  • CrazyTerry

Beanpole Speath was no great shakes as a blocker when he was here. He got better at the end. Compared to Paulson, he is a monster blocker, I guess. And coming off injury, I don’t know how much he has. Can’t be worse I guess.

  • Steve

Adams can hold his own on the run game, his achelies heel is pass blocking. He need to work on his arm punch and footwork.

  • Shea Fahr

He provides about a 100 yards from scrimmage every game he plays between running and receiving. His pass blocking has been adequate as well. Pretty good for a Rookie that misses the first 3 games and is still 6th in the league. I think he can still make a case for himself with 4 games left.
