Despite missing the first three games of the season with a foot injury, Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Le’Veon Bell still has a good shot at two franchise running back records with two games remaining in the season.
Bell, who has 43 receptions for 388 yards heading into Week 16, needs just nine more catches in order to break the running back franchise reception record that is currently held by J.L. Williams. Williams set that record back in 1994 when he caught 51 passes for 378 yards.
In addition to him chasing that record, Bell needs another 201 total yards for scrimmage in order to break the Steelers all-time rookie yards from scrimmage record that was set by Franco Harris back in 1972. That season, Harris rushed for 1,055 yards and caught 21 passes for another 180 yards in 14 games played.
Following the win Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals, Bell was pretty oblivious to the fact he was approaching Harris’ record when he was told how close he is to it.
“1,200? Hopefully, well see how it goes,” said Bell with a laugh. “Just continue to try to get better and do what I can.”
Bell has yet to have a 100-yard rushing game this season, however, and the Steelers have gone a current league-long 22 games without a 100-yard rusher. He has two games left to try to end that.
