Steelers Might Have To Promote LB Kion Wilson On Saturday

With inside linebacker Terence Garvin now ruled out for the Sunday game at Heinz Field against the Cleveland Browns, the Pittsburgh Steelers might have to consider promoting linebacker Kion Wilson from the practice squad to the 53 man roster on Saturday.

Not only is Garvin out, but starting outside linebacker Jason Worilds is also questionable for the game with an abdominal injury suffered last week against the Green Bay Packers. Worilds is expected to give it a go, however.

The Steelers will also get outside linebacker Jarvis Jones back this week, but with Chris Carter and Stevenson Sylvester both expected to see playing time at outside linebacker during the game, Wilson will likely be needed to play on special teams in addition to backing up both Lawrence Timmons and Vince Williams at the inside linebacker positions.

If Wilson is indeed promoted on Saturday, the Steelers will of course need to make a corresponding move in order to open a spot for him on the roster. With the team still mathematically alive for the playoffs heading into the Sunday’s game, it is doubtful that Garvin will be placed on injured reserve unless his injury is expected to keep him sidelined for several weeks.

The Steelers could choose to waive offensive lineman David Snow in order to make room for Garvin. Snow has yet to dress for a game since he was signed, so waiving him would make sense.
