Steelers Promote DE Brian Arnfelt; Waive LB Kion Wilson

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a roster move on Saturday as rookie defensive end Brian Arnfelt was promoted to the 53 man roster from the practice squad.

Arnfelt’s addition could be a sign that nose tackle Steve McLendon might not be ready to play Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals. McLendon failed to practice all week after re-aggravating an ankle injury last Sunday and as a result was listed as questionable on the Friday injury report.

The Steelers will again be without the services Sunday night of defensive end Brett Keisel, who will miss yet another game due to a foot injury.

To make room for Arnfelt on the 53 man roster, linebacker Kion Wilson was waived.

I’d like to see him get on the field for a few plays. I remember he stuck out during preseason and played really well. I’d be curious to see how he handles himself against one of the best offensive lines.

    Well, it’s about time!

  • Jacob Dixon

I know what about Alan Baxter they should sign him to the practice squad

  • DrakePirate

Ya, I never got that, I wonder what ever happened to him … would have liked to know the circumstances behind his release

  • blackandgoldBullion

Arnfelt, Arnfelt, arnfelt! Throw him to the wolves, AS I want to see this guy against stiff competition. really jumped out at me in the preseason.

  • HopalongCassidy

I’ll go out on a limb and predict Arnfelt will be a starter sometime next year. I think he is the next Keisel or Smith for the Steelers.

  • NW86

Interesting. I really thought they would do this a couple weeks ago, but glad they finally did. There’s a better chance of Arnfelt being on the 53-man roster next year than Kion Wilson so it’s a good move.

  • Jason

Keisel possibly, Smith very highly unlikely but I hope you are right.

  • Jollyrob68

I hope they keep him on the 53 man roster for the rest of the season.

  • Jollyrob68

Agreed,Keep him on the 53 for the rest of the season

  • Jollyrob68

Both will most likely be on the 53

Little info about Arnfelt… the man is crazy strong and athletic to boot… 38 reps at his pro day (Would have tied for 1st at Combine) and a 4.8 40yd dash

  • dgh57

I liked Baxter but I think if they were interested in him he would of been resigned weeks ago.

  • Shannon Stephenson

Hopefully he gets a helmet and a few snaps

  • joed32

He’s not in the league, so he’s available.

  • DrakePirate

Ya, I did a search and couldn’t find anything on him. Really strange, seems like he showed more than enough in pre-season to make it onto at least somebody’s practise squad … wonder if there was something behind the scenes on his release …

  • DrakePirate

ya agreed .. but don’t u think he performed well enough in pre-season to warrant a practise squad spot ??? At this point i think CC should be released, hes had a few years to show something and he has shown zilch … we cannot grow as a team by keeping chris carter types

  • dgh57

I thought we had a lot of depth at LB back in the preseason enough at least to push Carter off the roster and I was disappointed when it didn’t happen. Baxter certainly played better than Carter and deserved a spot on the roster ahead of Carter. I think it’s safe to say Carter won’t be back next year because he’s in his last year of his contract and has done nothing.
