Steelers Undrafted Rookie DE Brian Arnfelt Dresses For Bengals Game

With both defensive end Brett Keisel and nose tackle Steve McLendon sidelined by injuries for the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals, undrafted rookie free agent defensive end Brian Arnfelt will dress for the game.

So how many snaps can we expect the Northwestern product to play? I think the answer to that question depends entirely on the health of defensive end Ziggy Hood and whether or not the Steelers defense allows any long drives during the game. My initial thought is to say that he will perhaps see around five to seven snaps worth of playing time, but if Hood has problems with his ankle, or any other member of the defensive line sustains an injury, that number of course will increase.

Arnfelt saw the field quite a bit for the Steelers during the preseason with most of his 146 snaps coming on the right side. Overall he played well against the run and he managed to record two hurries during his late-game action.

Should Arnfelt indeed see considerable playing time Sunday night, we will of course break down his snaps next week.

Wow Al Woods is making quite the impression. Even the announcers sounded surprised to say Al Woods is dominating the line.

I hope our DLine next year has McLendon and Heyward at DE with Woods at NT. Seems we played more base defense than we have in quite a while. Even though John Mitchell was high on McLendon at NT, maybe LeBeau thinks otherwise and that explains so much use of the sub-packages more so than Foote being out. If we don’t have to draft a NT, that would help.

I am a member of the Brian Arnfelt fan club. I think we are looking at the next great Steeler UDFA. And there have been many.

I will come right out and say it. I think he will be better than Ziggy Hood within one year of playing time. Arnfelt is very very strong and he gets through traffic well.

On a related side note. Did anyone see the size of Al Woods arms?
