Steelers WR Antonio Brown Named 2013 Team MVP

The votes are now in and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown has been voted the 2013 team MVP by his teammates.

This is the second time in the past three years that Brown has won the team MVP award and he is the 11th player in the history of the franchise to win it multiple times.

Brown heads into the regular season finale against the Cleveland Browns with 101 receptions on the season and he needs only 12 more to have the most by a Steelers player in a single regular season as that would break the 112 that Hines Ward had in 2002.

Last week in the win over the Green Bay Packers, Brown became the Steelers new franchise leader in receiving yards in a single season as he passed Yancey Thigpen, who set the record in 1997 with 1,397 yards.

Brown, who also returns punts for the Steelers, needs only five all-purpose yards in order to pass Louis Lipps (1,824 in 1985) for the fourth-most by a Steelers’ player in a single season.

The Pro Bowl team will be announced on Friday and Brown is sure to be included on it.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.
  • Matt Manzo

Who’s in the top 3 for the teams all purpose yards?

  • steeltown

Well deserved, this guy has been remarkable. Not sure if he’ll hit the receptions mark, but it doesn’t even matter

  • Virdin Barzey

Agreed. Brown had gotten this award twice now. He’s a playmaker.

Ben who I don’t think have ever won the team MVP was second in my book but that was due to his horrendous start of the season. He was turning the ball over every week but now he’s looking every bit of the MVP part.

  • steeltown

I think he got it ’09 but I agree, you could make a case for Ben almost every year dating back to 2007

  • srdan

This was well deserved. Great choice.

    Defensive MVP goes to Cam.

  • srdan

For a franchise QB, he sure doesn’t get it a lot.

  • chris ward

Antonio Brown deserved to be named Steelers MVP. AB was the most consistent player all year, at least 5 catches for 50 yards or more in every game is a remarkable stat.

  • Jeff

Top 5 receiver and top 3 punt returner in the NFL for 2013…….. This was an easy choice! Kudos to Colbert and Co. for making this happen!

  • Virdin Barzey

Did he get it in 09? My bad.

  • Jeff

If AB wasn’t such an asset on special teams, I wouldn’t mind Ben getting it this year… well for that matter last year too.

  • blackandgoldBullion

Why not wait until the last game is played. I know it would make no difference this year, but it might have in some other year.

  • BurgherinMD

Agreed. With the exception of Sweed they have really found some diamonds through all rounds when looking for a wr.

  • Douglas Andrews

If only Colbert and Co. could find us a few more 6th round draft gems like AB. Steelers really made the right move locking up A Brown and he hasn’t disappointed one bit. Congrats AB you earned it

  • Steeler Fanatic

Mike who? AB is so more polished then Wallace, it’s not even funny. Sure, the Dolphins beat us, but if they think their investment in Wallace is worth it, then I’ll become Ziggy Hood’s agent and get him a 6 year- $60M contract to sign with the ‘fins. Both those guys are Fool’s Gold.

  • steeltown

I think Wallace’ deal was for 5yrs.. making it $12MIL per

  • mlc43

    Antonio Brown 101rec 1412yds 14avg 8TD 21(20+yard rec) 510YAC

    Mike Wallace 68rec 905yds 13.3avg 4TD 11(20+yard rec) 276YAC

Granted, one WR has Ben Roethlisberger throwing the ball and the other has Ryan Tannehill. Still, I say, “Wallace who?”

This was one decision our FO got absolutely correct.

  • CrazyTerry

Since AB brings punts into the equation, he deserves it. But pure offense, I give it to Ben. AB cost us the Oakland game with two horrendous mistakes . Not to mention that step out of bounds by an inch in which the win was there for the taking though quite frankly , some think Ben’s lateral was a forward pass by a smidgen on the same play.

  • CrazyTerry

Ben is deserving this year, but he killed our season last year when he got back form injury. He was horrendous in the clutch in the SD and Dallas games. The offense took a step back after the Ravens win by Batch.

  • Shannon Stephenson

    He deserves it

  • Tom Savastano

Congrats to Brown but IMO the guy throwing him the ball is the team MVP..
