Report: Redskins Interested In Interviewing Steelers Special Teams Coach Danny Smith

According to Tarik El-Bashir of csnwashington.com on Twitter, the Washington Redskins are interested in interviewing Pittsburgh Steelers special teams coach Danny Smith to be their next head coach.

Smith of course was the Redskins special teams coordinator for nine seasons before coming to Pittsburgh last season and according to El-Bashir, he is a longtime favorite of several players and owner Daniel Snyder.

El-Bashir does state, however, that an interview with Smith has not been scheduled as of yet, according to his sources.

This is not the first we’ve heard Smith’s name tossed around in regard to the Redskins head coaching job as former tight end Chris Cooley got the ball rolling several weeks ago on a local radio show. Cooley reportedly went on to say that he didn’t think that Smith would get the job if interviewed.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked about Smith possibly being a candidate for the Redskins job during his end-of-the-season press conference and would only say that he hadn’t been approached yet by Smith about it.
