Steelers Mike Tomlin Voted Second Head Coach Players Would Like To Play For Most

A recent ESPN NFL Nation poll of more than 320 players resulted in Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll being chosen as the coach whom players would most like to play for.

Coming in second place, however, was Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin as he finished with 44 votes.

Despite having two back-to-back 8-8 seasons and not having a playoff win since the 2010 season, Tomlin remains a very popular coach. He knows how to relate to his players and how to work them at the same time.

Tomlin’s coaching ability was really tested last season and while you never want applaud for mediocrity, you have to tip your cap to him for being able to get the team to finish 6-2 in the final half of the season after starting it 2-6.

About Dave Bryan

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

    I’d play for him.

It’s evident that players want to play for coach T and this past season was a perfect example of it. Most teams would collapse after starting 0-4. But this team is strong and it’s thanks to Tomlin and the stable organization

    Obviously.

This has been my comment on Tomlin for this season. Other teams folded when things went badly. The way the Steelers started off, it would have been easy for them to fold as well (I’m not clearing Tomlin from responsibility of the poor start, but there are multiple factors at work and we are not in the locker room or the FO to know all of them).

But the head coach kept the team and the other coaches IN it. The end of season success would not have been accomplished otherwise.

That’s true. Good point. Didn’t do much for my plans with the #4 overall draft pick, but still nice that we can technically say we didn’t have a losing season (but still feels like it).

Admittedly it took me a half second to get this one, but this is definitely the best comment here lol.

I for one was shocked that team did not finish 4-12. Finishing at 8-8 and nearly making the Playoffs was quite a feat. No way the team finishes less then 10-6 next season (much easier schedule, look it up!)
