Steelers Sign WR Jasper Collins To A Futures Contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers have added another free agent wide receiver to their offseason roster as former Mount Union wide receiver Jasper Collins has signed a reserve/futures contract.

Collins was originally signed by the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent last year but wound up being waived injured with an undisclosed injury at the end of July. After reverting back to the Dolphins injured reserve list after clearing waivers, Collins was ultimately released with an injury settlement.

Collins was then signed to the practice squad of the Cleveland Browns, but that stay didn’t last long as he was released less than two weeks later.

During his final season at Mount Union, Collins registered 92 catches for 1,694 yards with 22 touchdowns. He measured in at his Pro day last year at 5’10 and weighed 180 pounds. He also reportedly ran a sub 4.5 forty yard dash.

Would be nice to think we got a possible return man on the cheap, but he’s more than likely just a camp/PS body.

And yet…22 TDs? Was he the only receiver?

Mount Union is a D-III powerhouse and scored in bunches. In 2012, they scored 60+ four times, including 72 in a playoff game.

He should of been drafted. I thought Patriots were going to draft him.

It’d be nice to see another guy from my alma mater make an nfl team. He seems to have a knack for getting open and has nice hands. Looks like a willing blocker, although he won’t intimidate anyone with his run blocking, he does seem to be fairly effective. I hope he makes it, we’ll see!

    Damn another little guy!

He’s every bit of good as Sanders … unfortunately he’s not what we are looking for …. too many little guys already !
