Report: Steelers Met With Notre Dame NT Louis Nix III At Combine

Notre Dame nose tackle Louis Nix III has been linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers in several mock drafts so far this offseason and he reportedly met with the team at the 2014 NFL Combine, according to Jim Wexell of Steel City Insider on Twitter.

According to Wexell, Nix’s meeting with head coach Mike Tomlin went well and he will detail that interview later on his website..

Nix, who weighed in at 331 in Indianapolis, is reportedly down 23 pounds since January.

“I enjoy my weight. People wanted it down so I got it down,” he said, according to Wexell’s tweet.

Nix missed the end of the 2013 college season with a torn meniscus, says his knee is fine.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.
  • Iron Cadet

    No. Please no

  • Matt Manzo

Uh oh! This must mean we’re taking him at 1 and then drafting a QB, RB and the rest on OL!!!

  • Rob H

I was actually happy when he started showing up on a lot of the mock drafts for us, that almost guarantees he won’t be the pick.

  • Iron Cadet

Idk a lot of people mocked us Jarvis jones, and before that pouncey

  • Milliken Steeler

Please no on Nix at number 15.

  • StarSpangledSteeler

    Smokescreen?

  • joed32

    They can interview 60 players.

  • Kareem Daniels

Michigan didn’t even double team him. He’s the pick of lazy analysts

  • SFIC

    Ew!!!!!
The Steelers were probably just asking Nix where to find a good rib joint in Indy.

  • Rob H

Pouncey was one of the easier guesses I’ve ever seen, he made sense on every level, but from what I can recall, Jones kept getting mocked to go way before we picked, until towards the very end, even then a lot of people didn’t have him getting past the Saints.

    syc,

its called talkn to Tracy to get close to her sister tammy!

  • CW

With the multiple same knee injuries he’s probably going to drop out of the first and maybe even the second round…

Seriously who wants to potentially throw away a top draft pick on a guy who might be severely limited in his total career in the Pros?

But if he drops far enough or the medical evaluation really checks out, then he could be a real steal later in the draft, especially if he is part of a plan to trade down to the lower end of the first round to pick up additional draft picks in the 3rd and/or later rounds.

  • Luke Shabro

“I’m enjoy my weight.” Please God no, we’ve already had too many guys on this team that enjoy their weight lol. I could think of at least 10 players I’d take before Nix.

  • SteelersDepot

that kid has a good sense of humor. watch the combine media session above

  • Steve

If you watch the film above Michigan sure did Double team Nix while running the ball and on Passes. Nix beat a few of the Double teams and some he got blown out.

  • William Weaver

I agree the steelers won’t take him but he will make some pro-bowls. High quality kid. I do get tired of the “why would we waste a pick on someone who doesn’t play every snap” talk. Was Mr Hampton a wasted first round pick? Not comparing the two but saying first round is not too early for a NT. Just saying. Beat me up if you want. Lol

  • Kareem Daniels

I did watch. They didn’t double team him much. He’s not a 1st round pick

  • blackandgoldBullion

Right you are! Good kid, with a sense of humour. I wish him well, but I hope they don;t draft him. Men of Steel need many other parts first and foremost.

  • Lamarr56

    I hope so

  • Steve

Nix is not a 1st round pick. My point is he was double teamed about every 3rd play. He is slow but has some burst of speed such as at the end of the Michigan game as you said. A few times he burst into the backfield messing up the play.

  • WIINGY

    smokescreen. Watch’ya smokin’?

  • Melly

    seems like a nice kid??!

  • Rick M

If management wastes the #15 pick on a guy who already has an injury history in college, and who will be on the field for only 50% of the plays at most, they should all be fired immediately.

Guaranteed at least 3 QBs will be selected before the Steelers, which in essence makes this the #12 pick of non-QBs. It’s a high-value, critical pick Colbert. Don’t blow it.

  • Chad H

He is funny. Seams like a good guy in the locker room. Can’t fault him for liking Five Guys. Good burger and fries.

  • 243546

Regardless of how you feel about Nix, he’s a funny dude!

  • 243546

Nix looks like he could be a really good 1-technique in a 4-3 defense.

  • Michael Pearce

No thanks. We need to do much better at 15

  • Don

That’s what I think, too. Laziness. I keep repeating here that the league is passing more and more so the Casey Hampton role is shrinking. I wouldn’t mind having Nix, I suppose, but not until the 3rd or 4th round. He might even be available then.

  • Rob

I trust our front office. If they think he’s the man, I’m fine with them taking nix. They drafted big snack. I’m sure they are qualified to make a comparison. In all reality, I don’t really care who we draft here as long as the player had all-pro potential at his given position. I don’t want a decent or above average player because it fits a need when we could have a star elsewhere

  • Shannon Stephenson

UGHHHHH!!! If we go a ND defensive lineman I hope we go Truit in the 2nd.

  • Lucus Rodriguez

I hope he is there. Wanted to bash this comment and say he wont be there but the more I look at the depth in this draft I cant say that about basically anyone now.

  • Shannon Stephenson

I doubt Truit would make it to us in the 2nd but wishful thinking
