Soon-To-Be Free Agent WR Emmanuel Sanders Has Parted Ways With Agent Jordan Woy

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders will be an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year and his preparation for the momentous occasion as already begun as he has reportedly fired his original agent.

According to Liz Mullen of the Sports Business Journal, Sanders has parted ways with Jordan Woy, who has been his representation since being drafted by the Steelers in the third-round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Sanders, who had a career year in 2013 in his first full season as a starter in Pittsburgh, figures to be one of the top five free agent wide receivers available this offseason and there is already rumblings that the New York Jets will have interest in signing him.

Last offseason, Sanders was a restricted free agent and the Steelers tendered him at an original round level. After the SMU product signed a one-year, $2.5 million offer sheet with the New England Patriots, the Steelers decided to match it and retain his services instead of receiving a third-round draft pick as compensation for his loss.

During his four seasons in Pittsburgh, Sanders has recorded 161 catches for 2,030 yards and 11 touchdowns in 56 regular-season games played.

There is no word as of yet as to who will represent Sanders moving forward.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

Sounds like Sanders didnt like what his agent told him the market value would be for an average-below average wr2

  • steeltown

    Hmmm.. interesting

  • dennisdoubleday

Not very classy firing the guy just before you get your big payday, but eh, agents are mostly parasites anyway. If a guy is good he’ll get paid, no matter the agent.

  • Nolrog

Does this make it any more or less likely that he signs elsewhere?

  • dkoy85

Makes you wonder if Aric Brown is right. Could Sanders wind up not getting paid like he hoped? I know a lot of people wouldn’t want it but I’d be happy to see him in Pittsburgh again. Then we could nab Ebron rd 1. Heard he bulked up for the combine and to get better at blocking.

  • SteelerFanInMD

Maybe Sanders is getting a higher powered agent to represent him because he is expecting many offers.

  • Jones

At this point, he’s still dropped more passes than he has agents. I’d like to see that stat inverted…

  • treeher

I think you’re exactly right. I don’t blame him for getting every cent he can – he is one big hit away from a career ending injury – but if he is expecting the kind of contract thrown at his buddy Wallace, he is delusional and it’s too bad an agent had to lose his job right before a big payday.

  • RedCarpetDefense

I’ve grown tired of Sanders’ act. In 2013 the Steelers had more a need for him than he being a special player. No guarantees that he’ll contribute and be more productive than a player drafted this year could be. Really wanted Wheaton to eventually have worked his way to the starting lineup and with Cotch’s production Sanders would’ve been riding the pine. Of course it didn’t work out that way.

  • Brendon Glad

Yeah, that is pretty disrespectful. I’m surprised sports agents haven’t gone the route of Real-estate agents…like when you sign with them it says something like…”if you sell the property within x(30-90) amount of days after you terminate me…you are still gonna owe me some commission.” But whatever…like you, I don’t feel sorry for the agents. But if I were one, I sure wouldn’t let players pull that little stunt on me…that’s for sure.

  • Jollyrob68

he did his first contract and restricted year under that agent,so what’s the problem with getting a new one?

  • Virdin Barzey

Wish we had trade him to the Patsies for that pick. I’m sure the Jets will pick him up. Him and Holmes will make a fine pair for that team

  • tim

    ” Hello, Scott Boras..?”

  • tim

Id rather have C.J. from Iowa or the kid from Washington…both have very good hands and are ALREADY good blockers AND can be had after RD. 3…

  • Brian Miller

I heard that the Jets will be cutting Holmes and his big contract…apparently they don’t want to pay a ton of money for a receiver who only plays 5 games a season.

  • Jazz

I agree; he isn’t a #1 WR know matter how you look at it. Yes, he runs great routes, can be explosives returning KO’s and Punts too, but he is still not a #1 WR. We all know that’s exactly what he is looking to get paid for in 2014. One thing is for sure, New England will not over pay him for his services, so it looks like he could end up with the Gain Green, NYJets in 2014.

  • Shannon Stephenson

Makes me wonder why Sanders let Woy go?

  • Luke Shabro

I don’t hate Sanders. Players have to maximize their value and get as much as they can. I get it. And I may be wrong but I feel like he still played hard and didn’t mail it in like that diva Wallace. But as Aric said, he an average to below average second wide receiver. I wouldn’t want Pitt to keep him unless they paid him about 2-2.5 million a year which we know he isn’t going to take. Let him walk, re-sign Cotch to the same deal he’s had, hopefully Wheaton progresses and draft another couple kids in the 3-7th rounds. Good luck to the kid and I hope he has success but he’s not worth the cap room.

  • StrengthOfVictory

Hard to say if this is a move to get more money, or if Sanders didn’t like the way his agent was paying hardball lip service. The fact that we’ve already heard his agent say that he and his client are looking for a significant deal may actually be scaring teams (like the Steelers) away.

I’m sure Sanders wants to get paid, but he’d also like to entertain multiple offers. Then again, maybe his agent wasn’t being aggressive enough. Who knows?

  • SwagDaddy330

Yeah, it’s his agents fault that he cant catch a pass

  • Aric Brown

I wouldn’t mind having Sanders back… but I’m certain he has priced himself right out of Pittsburgh… Sanders could be a really good slot receiver but I don’t think he’ll ever really excel as a true WR2 as the front office hoped that he would

  • dkoy85

I agree. Too dang expensive. I’d love to see Wheaton as the #2 and Sanders as slot/KR. We completely underused him in the kick return game- I’m still very bitter about that!
