Safety Ryan Mundy signed with the Chicago Bears on Tuesday after playing one season with the New York Giants and now we have the details of the two-year contract he signed thanks to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
Mundy’s deal totals out at $3 million and of that, his base salaries are $800,000 and $1.45 million. He also gets a $650,000 roster bonus in 2014 and can earn $50,000 in workout bonuses in both years of the deal. There is $10,000 unaccounted for, but it really is insignificant.
I really am surprised Mundy got this much as he only played 667 snaps in 2013 with the Giants.
There has been some speculation that the Pittsburgh Steelers will receive a compensatory draft pick for the loss of Mundy during free agency last offseason, but being as he only signed a one-year qualifying contract with the Giants, I have been working under the assumption that he didn’t earn enough, nor play enough to qualify for one.
Compensatory draft picks are  are typically announced at the NFL owners meetings and they take place his year later this month. So we don’t have very long to wait until we know whether or not the Steelers will get two or three of them for the 2014 NFL Draft.
