Colts Owner Jim Irsay Arrested, Charged With DUI And Possesion

According to several media reports, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was arrested Sunday night and charged with driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance.

The 54-year-old Irsay was reportedly booked in the Hamilton County jail and his bond was set at $22,500 after his arrest

By the sounds of things, Irsay has fallen off of the wagon. Back in October, the Colts owner tweeted that he hadn’t had a drink in over 15 years.

Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz apparently saw this coming as he tweeted a short time ago, “There was a sad inevitability to Jim Irsay’s arrest. He’s been struggling for some time now. Hope he gets help.”

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Irsay will be subject to league discipline under the Personal Conduct Policy.

Hate to kick someone when they are down but can’t say I’m surprised at this one. What he did and said about Peyton was truly classless. Lost a lot of respect for him and his organization. Will be interesting to see how Goodell deals with this one.

This. I’m getting some pretty good Schadenfreude out of it.

    I hope he gets better.

Why does this not surprise me, sorry, I don’t want to make light of anyones personal issues and/or problems with dependency, I struggle with my own vices

It shows addiction doesn’t give a hoot about race, gender, social standing, etc. The mighty just fall harder than all of the rest of us.

Living in Indiana where Irsey cant do anything wrong, it seems the carpet is unraveling.

Having been sober for well over a decade now, I certainly know all about the demons that Irsay faces. That being said, he’s lucky he didn’t kill anybody. Hopefully he gets help. He’s a real quirky person and I’ve always liked him.

Was a heavy drinker myself for years, not an easy habit to break. With all the money he has should have called a cabbie or had a chauffeur drive him home. Alcohol make you do crazy things, wouldn’t normally do.

I wonder if seeing Peyton in the SB helped him fall off that wagon 🙂

I’d like to know what the controlled substance is. Has an NFL owner ever been tied to drugs before?

  • CrazyTerry

So will Goodell hold the owners to the same standards as the players?

I’m guessing no since they pay his salary. A good one at that. How can you suspend an owner? Take a draft pick? That just punishes the fans.
