Free Agent Visitors Lance Moore, Maurice Jones-Drew Have Reportedly Left Facility Unsigned

The Pittsburgh Steelers had two offensive free agents in for visits on Wednesday and both have reportedly left the facility unsigned.

According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Lance Moore and Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew both had their visits and left the Steelers facility without contracts. It is unknown if either were offered deals.

This news isn’t really surprising. In the case of Moore, the Steelers are likely waiting for free agent wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery to choose between returning to Pittsburgh and signing with the Carolina Panthers. Cotchery met with the Panthers a few days ago.

In the case of Jones-Drew, he probably wants to make a few more visits before deciding where to play in 2014. When Adam Schefter of ESPN reported earlier in the day that the longtime Jaguars running back was headed to Pittsburgh for a visit, he also mentioned that other teams had interest in the UCLA product.

As of right now, no other free agent visits to Pittsburgh have been reported as being scheduled, but that of course could change at any time.

Not like its a very secure thing, but I just read that Sidney Rice was going to go to Pittsburgh for a visit next week.

I think I will make a visit to South Water St, it’s the thing to do

I’m more upset about Alex Carrington going to visit the Browns than these two not being signed. Moore might be decent but MJD is more name than anything now. I’d rather have a 5th or 6th round kid and another undrafted free agent or two.

So, we just paying these free agents for trips to the Burgh at this point?

  • steelersfan

    well that was unprecdented

Steelers are trying to play the free agent game, but they’re just not getting it done. They have to sign at least 1 or 2 before the draft, so we have some options.

I disagree. I think they’re being prudent. Some teams may overpay for FAs but the Steelers still will not (outside of slightly overpaying Cam Thomas) even if they can restructure Timmons for more cap space. I think they could get some quality depth post June 1st from guys that become cap casualties.

I agree. It will be much easier to draft the best available players if we do this. mjd is coming back tomorrow…hopefully we get something done- not betting on it though.

They will not, because they cannot, or else players like Carrington and Cotchery would’ve been signed by now. Add those 2 and maybe a running back before the draft and things are way different with this team.

I just hope they get catch and Alex and I think we will be set for the draft !!
