Jaguars Free Agent RB Maurice Jones-Drew Leaves Second Visit With Steelers Unsigned

The Pittsburgh Steelers second visit Thursday with Jacksonville Jaguars free agent running back Maurice Jones-Drew is over and the veteran remains unsigned, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Jones-Drew had also met with the Steelers on Wednesday.

The Steelers search for a backup running back will now continue. They had previously had a visit with Green Bay Packers free agent running back James Starks lined up, but he decided to re-sign with his old team prior to that visit taking place.

The Steelers currently have only four running backs under contract for 2014 and three of them have never played a snap in the NFL. The fourth is starter Le’Veon Bell.

They are just kicking tires, and that is the prudent thing to do.
The FO just wants to know how these guys could fit into the plan, financially and snaps.

  • Rod Hedrick

I like him but, they can’t over pay for a backup.

  • treeher

    Isaac Redman, yoo-hoo …

  • Lucus Rodriguez

smart move brining him in and showing him the winning environment. at the end of free agency if he still isn’t getting the money he wants than that could be the difference in whether or not he wants to come here.

    Second this

  • srdan

    well said

  • PA2AK

I hope we never have another Isaac Redman experiment

Michael Bush, Andre Brown or Blount seem to be the next likeliest guys, Andre Browns injury issues are cause for concern

I would have been happy with keeping Cotchery, getting Jones-Drew and bringing back James Harrison and then letting the chips fall where they may in the draft. OH WELL!

  • steelster

Blount’s off the field issues are a cause for concern.

  • steeltown

True.. which is why Michael Bush is my first choice

  • wilsonmjw

Blount is younger and showed some things late last season. If he kept his head on straight, he is exactly the kind of back Steeler fans love.

  • Bartholomew Wimer

How much money is he looking for? He would be a great add if he was cheap, but this is the same guy who ‘threatened’ to hold out 2 years after signing a 5 year deal. Then he did hold out in his 4th year. He’s probably looking for too much money.

  • Luke Shabro

Maurice Jones-Drew has a side piece in Pittsburgh. That must be why he keeps coming back lol

  • Brian Miller

At this point, I’m like why? Why don’t we just roll with our practice squad guys, and whomever we draft(assuming we draft someone?) Let’s see what we have…bothers me that we always seem to keep a lot of players on the practice squad, and yet they stay there for the max time but never get actual playing time. I understand we need someone to be able to block for Big Ben, but let’s give our players a chance too before we just drop them from the team.

  • Steve

Main reason is injurys. Look at last year Foote and Pouncy down Early. Didn’t have a backup center, had to go shopping.

  • Brian Miller

Yes, but none of these guys they have now are injured…and my point is, let us see what they can do in game situations…Maysonett had a little bit of hype coming out of college, let’s see what he can do.
